SO...I'm turning the BIG 3-0 (gulp!) on Sept. 30th (golden birthday, woot woot!). Aaaand it's on a Friday!! I've never had a really big birthday shindig and am kind of tempted to embrace turning 30 with a big party. But...do people plan their OWN birthday parties? I know you shouldn't plan your own bridal/baby shower...but I'm not sure on birthday party etiquette. Normally we just do a quiet family dinner at a really nice restaurant.
I'm not sure what kind of party I'd want to do... how big? Who? Where? Food? Games?
Would it be lame to get some really rockin' piece of clothing that is gold for my golden birthday??? Or do a gold "theme"?? It might be fun to go all out tacky gold lame' everywhere, haha. Or maybe not. I don't know! Help! ![]()
Re: Birthday party question
You can totally plan your own party! Go for it!!
A couple friends of ours (husband and wife) have the same birthday and when it was her 30th (his 33rd) they planned a party at a local bar. They reserved an area, ordered food and snacks and just told all their friends to stop by whenever they liked over the course of the evening. It was really fun, low stress and everyone had a great time.
For my 30th, my husband threw me a surprise dinner-party with several of our close friends. Very fun and sweet!
I believe Anita also just threw herself a birthday cocktail party at her house - but that sounds like a lot of stress to me!
oh - and themes are fun! A friend of mine has a theme to EVERY party she hosts and for her 30th, the theme was metalic/sparkles. Everyone had to wear something metalic colored or with sparkles. People came up with some pretty creative stuff!
I was thinking something kind of like this (maybe not so slutty in the front, hah) with some black dress pants. (Why am I thinking so hard about this already?) :-)
I like the idea of a casual "open house" idea at a bar or restaurant.
Are e-mail or Facebook invites to something like this a big no-no or do I need to mail real paper invites?

I like it - I'd wear it with some wide leg pants, but that's just because I'm strange.
Send fbook invites, but I would make a point to personally tell people too. I always feel like a generic fbook invite is kind of like "i'm inviting you b/c i want you there, but not enough to that we talk regularly to have you already know what's going on." Which is strange, I know...
The thought of hosting something at our house makes me break out in nervous sweats. I'd rather let someone else do the pre and post party clean up. :-)
I like this idea too! H had a surprise party for me for my 30th...I had no idea, and it was a lot of fun!
I would do an e-vite or facebook invite especially if it's more of an "open house" feel, then it's more casual all around! Besides a wedding invite, I wouldn't think anything of getting an electronic invitation any more!

I like your gold theme idea for your golden bday! I would probably prefer to reserve a room at a bar and have apps and drinks available and people can come and go all evening. And yes, you can definitely plan it yourself. I almost always do facebook invites these days because everyone that I'd invite is already on there.
(P.S. Yay for Sept bdays! Mine is the 15th. I'm heading to Vegas to celebrate mine this year)
Mine too:) Maybe I should plan a trip to Vegas as well since I've never been there!
Hey bday twin
You totally should, Vegas is sooo fun!
