Vet recs?

Anyone have a good, honest vet in the surrounding area of Canton?

Re: Vet recs?

  • We've taken our cats to Hidden Springs in Northville for several years now.  We love them!  I don't know about their rates compared to other vets, but they provide great care for our animals and we feel very comfortable with them.

  • I'm a freak about vets..prolly b/c my dad was one (he passed away 10 yrs ago) so before that we never really had to go to one b/c we had the best one always...ever since he passed we go to his best friend but it's in St.Clair Shores..kind of a drive from you (we drive there even when my mom still owned my dad's hospital). let me know if you want the info! His name is Dr. Nurse ;)

p.s I have an itchy dog too.... it's insane but he's a lot better! We use this stuff we bought at Three Dog Bakery and it has worked wonders and reduced the amount of meds he has to take

  • We go to Alsager Animal Care Center - it's on Warren Road between Sheldon and Morton Taylor in Canton. I usually try to make our appointments on the days that Dr. Alsager is in - I think it's like Mondays and Wednesdays.

For the LOOOONNGGGEST time, we thought he was having seizures. His face apparently is the worst of the itchy places. He would twist his head back and pound his foot, and many times he'd make contact with his face. It was like he couldn't control it or stop it and you'd have to risk yourself and grab his foot to stop him. He tore apart his face a number of times (and us if we got in the way).  So for the 'seizures' we treated them with tons of different meds- no change. My aunt saw him at a family party and said "Jack used to do that too, we put him on steroids and he never had an issue again".  So we called our vet and told her. She agreed to try it and it worked.
What's the stuff from Three Dog Bakery you use?

  • I have an extremely itchy dog too!  I ended up taking him to a dermatologist because I was sick of him getting reoccuring skin infections.  Come to find out, he's allergic to cotton and cats!  I had three cats at the time and his bed, collar, blankets, toys, etc were all cotton!  Since I have eliminated these things, he has not had an issue.  I don't think I"ve had him on antibiotics for a skin infection/itchiness in the past 3 years.

(just so you know, I didn't dump the cats.  My brother has two of them and my aunt has the other one.  Oddly enough, both of them had been wanting the cats and I would never let them take them. So it worked out well, otherwise I'd still have the cats and poor Copper would have had to suffer. Haha).

  • I have a dachshund with AWFUL allergies - skin problems.. ear issues you name it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr.McQueen at Levan Vet in Livonia. 5 mile and Levan. She has made such a difference in my guys life.

We also took him to Dr. Bloom in Livonia - he is an allergist. Expensive. But worth it. But Dr. McQueen is amazing. She just takes her time and really and truly loves the animals -

    good luck.
