Hello, I am thinking about going back to school to become a dental assistant. I am wondering if any of you have any positives or negatives about being a dental asst. I would appreciate any advice you have if you are a dental asst. or are in the dental field. Thanks
Re: Dental Assistants
I am not a dental assistant but I work in HR for a large dental school/dental clinic.
I think that it is a strong field because there will always be jobs available. However, there is significantly more money paid to hygienists. If you want to make more than mid/high teens, then become a hygienist.
I'm on the west coast (high-er cost of living) and assistants make, on average, about $16/hr. Hygienists can be close to $30/hr.
