Post interview thank yous

I just interviewed with a couple of people. Do I mail the thank you? Or is email ok?

Re: Post interview thank yous

  • If you interviewed with them in person, I would send a note. But if you have communicated through email, then I think an emailed thanks would suffice.
  • Thanks so much. Do I send one addressed to both people I talked to or a separate one to each?
  • I prefer e-mail. But if they're going to make a decision quickly, e-mail is fine.

  • I had an interview on Wed they are calling today with a decision I sent mine via email. I did this because the only options were email and fax. I send my resume via email and brought a hard copy to my interview. My fax doesn't do confirmations so I didn't want to send it that way. I don't think I would have emailed it if that was not how the resume was accepted.
  • I had an interview yesterday afternoon.  They are making a decision "next week."  I didn't want to take the chance that a handwritten thank you would get there after a decision was made so I emailed my thank yous this morning.  The VP has already replied thanking me for my "very nice note" and following up on something we discussed casually at the beginning of my interview (an issue affecting the industry I work in now, I'm interviewing in a different industry).

Separate one to each. Try and mention something you talked to each of them about.

  • Email is fine.  As a hiring manager, the mailed note is a bit overkill, IMO. I think anything other than thanking them for their time, how much you enjoyed meeting them and a line about why you are a good fit is also overkill.
