The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Does it get better? I'm only a few chapters in and I'm already thinking of shooting myself it's so boring. Could there be any more backstory?

So then I went on Amazon to look at the reviews for reassurance and instead wound up reading reviews from other people who didn't like it for the same reasons and claim the majority of the book is like that.

Thoughts and feelings?

I'm supposed to read it along with some friends for a book club but I don't know how I'll get through it. Especially since I'm starting The Hunger Games tonight and am prepared for it to dominate my desire to read.

Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

  • It took about 1/3 of the book before I really got into it. It does get better and I did like it. The second one was much better in my opinion. I havent read the third yet.
  • You really could skip the entire financial stuff at the beginning of book 1- skim it to get the general idea of what is going on, and then move on to the good stuff. It does get really good.

I really enjoyed the entire series books and movies. The second book is by far my favorite, but the 3rd really does a lot of good closure on the story line.

  • Ok....I'm reading The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest right now.

It took me three times to finally get past the first 50 pages of Tattoo....but I promise...tough it out and it'll be worth it. I think it honestly took me 100 pages to not want to nod off. Then I flew through the rest of it....immediately picked up Fire and flew through that...now, Hornet's is super slow...but I'm determined to finish at this point.

On the other hand.....the Hunger Games are my #1 recommendation to EVERYONE right now. You will read all three within a week. Oh, and if you don't have all three lined up on your nightstand...go get the other two, you'll be ready for Catching Fire by Sunday and Mockingjay by Tuesday. ;) I'm a HG JUNKIE!!!!!!

    Does that help?

  • I enjoyed the series, but of course it isn't for everyone!

I think it took me nearly 100 pages to really get into the first book. Then it got to the point where I couldn't put it down. I read it on the way back from Hawaii last year and I remember my head hurt because I read too much too fast.

  • It does get better, but like T said, you have to get about 1/3 of the way into it...which is like 200 pages.  I really liked it a lot.
  • I went backwards and saw the movies before I picked up any of the books. But I agree that it takes awhile to get into the book. I'm just finishing up The Girl Who Played with Fire and really enjoy it.

I'm kinda concerned that the American version of the movie will try to make the movie too hard core. I just saw the trailer for it...no likey.

  • Loved it!  Didn't think I would, but I really got into it!
  • It gets better!
  • I made the mistake of listening on audio. I wanted to poke my eyes out. Eventually, it did get really good though and I'm happy I pushed through!
  • You have to get about 100 pages in, then it gets good. I had that same problem!

I am currently reading the third one. The first one is a bit of a slow start, but is really good in the end !

  • I almost put it down, I thought it was poorly written and going nowhere, but eventually I got hooked and read all three. I still don't think the writing style is the greatest but it definitely draws you in eventually. Fun series.
