washing crocheted blanket?
can I just wash it on a gentle cycle? should I air dry it? I was given one as a gift & there is a bit of cat hair on it & my H is allergic...
Re: washing crocheted blanket?
We run them through normally, and dry them too. When I have air dryed them in the past they get stiff. I like the soft feeling the dryer leaves.
DD has a blanket that she uses for sleep that gets washes every 2 weeks and it still looks brand new.
It depends on the type of yarn. If it's the common acrylic type, just wash and dry as normal. A gentle cycle might be a good idea, but really, it's going to be fine if it was made correctly.
If it's wool, be careful, because it might shrink.
My mom always says they need to be "blocked" the first time I wash them. Which according to her means laying them out flat to dry (after washing on gentle) and making sure to pull it into a square (or rectangle) shape - even if that means you have to pin it down with something to get it into a square.
After you've done it once, they are supposed to hold that shape better and then you can dry it on low. Acrylic dries really fast so it won't take long.
