Favorite Wedding Gift ?

We have 7 weddings this summer... and I was wondering what everyones favorite wedding gift was?

Re: Favorite Wedding Gift ?

  • Depends on how much you want to spend. My favorite favorite gift was the KitchenAid mixer.  Otherwise, I loved anything personal, but that can easily become the "ohmygod, so not my taste" kind of gift too ;)

I'd stick to the registries, and maybe add in a nice bottle of wine?

For real. I have a 20 pound crystal picture frame that's disgusting. Buy them their towels :)
  • I agree with buying off the registry, doing a gift card, or cash.  I just like to make sure that things get used.  We too got some things that were personal and so not our taste

  • I always buy the same thing for weddings - I get a 6 bottle wine tote and fill it with 6 bottles of wine. Then, I write a little note and tie it to each bottle explaining why that bottle is special to me and the type of food or party it would best be suited for. I always include a bottle of champagne intended for their first anniversary. It's a great way to start a wine cabinet for the new couple. I've gotten raves about doing it from all the couples.

I love this idea!  We usually go buy a red wine call "monogamy," and give some cash.  In the past we have given an engraved door knocker for their house, etc.  Or stick to the registry....it is, after all, why the made a registry.

  • Please stick with the registry. They'll get enough off-registry crap they don't need or want from other people.

That said, my favorite wedding gift was my knife block.

  • Our friend wrote our names the sand in individual pictures and a heart, and then put the pictures in one vertical frame.  My name, heart, his name.  Very cool!

  • I was so happy with linens because we needed new towels and sheets desperately when we got married.  Also new silverware, dishes, and some other kitchen items.

I sold the gifts I couldn't stand on eBay.

  • We got a lot of Target and Amazon gift cards, I loved 'em!
  • The most practical items like towels, dishes, silverware, etc. from their registry is always a safe bet. Otherwise, a gift card to wherever they are registered. We got enough Target gift cards to buy a flat screen TV!

  • I've started buying consumables.  Mainly I get a girft card for a restaurant that I know they like or a new place that I tihnk they'd like.  A card for an ice cream shop/bakery near the restaurant.  A card for movie tickets for a local theater.  I call it a date night gift in the card to them and explain why I thought they'd like the restaurant/ice cream/bakery.

  • For the most part, I agree with sticking to the registry, especially for the couples that you aren't really close to. You have to know someone really well to pick out an off-registry gift that they would like.

Most of our off-registry gifts were not things we wanted or weren't to our taste. That being said, my favorite gift was not on our registry. My aunt & uncle bought us lefse-making supplies (grill, pastry board, potato ricer, turning stick, rolling pin), and I love it! Of course, it came from someone who knows us well enough to know that we both love lefse and would really enjoy that gift.

  • My bridesmaids all paid for us to go deepsea fishing on our honeymoon, hands down favorite gift!

I was really happy to get our linens, and our silverware. Both things we really really needed. Target gift cards were awesome too, we got new bikes and a grill with those.

I usually buy a bottle of decent champagne and put on 3 $15 giftcards to restaurants in their area. Not enough for a dinner out, but enough to get them in the door and out on a date night. I like to try to find places I know they haven't gone to, or somewhere special to them already.
