DH wants a big floppy cheesy piece of pizza for dinner.  Any suggestions? TIA

  • Black Sheep Pizza isn't exactly NY style pizza, but it is the closest that I've had here.
  • Andrea's in the skyway has great New York style pizza (and a lot of New York attitude...in a good way).  I think they're only open during the day though.

  • Pizza Luce is hands-down the best pizza in the Twin Cities. I believe all their ingredients are organic and it's pretty close to NY style pizza.

    This.

Pizza Luce and Black Sheep (I think) are Neapolitan pizza and nothing like NY style at all. I don't like NY style but Andrea's and Ramy's both get the stamp of approval from my former NY resident friend.

Punch is Neapolitan pizza, not Luce or Black Sheep.  Black Sheep is the closest I've had to NY style pizza here, since it is made in a coal oven and has a crisper crust, though it isn't a real NY style pizza.  I don't think it is possible to get authentic NY style pizza in the Twin Cities.  I haven't been to Andrea's, and Pizza Luce is nothing like NY pizza.

  • hmm. the pizza I had at pizza luce was definitely neopolitan. Which I hate. I haven't been to punch or black sheep.

Andrea, the owner is from New York.  A coworker of mine was born in New York and lived there most of his life.  He gave it his stamp of approval as well.  Big, hand-tossed slices that you can fold in half to eat with one hand and are light on sauce.

I totally forgot about how much I miss eating there since I don't work downtown anymore.  I love the pepperoni and green olives.  Andrea totally makes the place.  He's hilarious.

I know what NY style pizza is.  Wiki links aren't necessary.

  • Ginelli's in the skyway in Minneapolis is the closest I've had - but they close at 3-ish. I've never been to Andrea's or Black Sheep.

Pizza Luce is nothing like NY pizza.

  • Thanks for all the responses ladies!  We do like black sheep and pizza luce, but I didn't think they were NY style.  DH owns a business in the skyway so he may be checking out Andrea's and Ginelli's alone.  Boo for me.

  • This thread is mildly amusing me this afternoon.
  • There's a place on Nicollet and 24th called A Slice of New York or something that I think is pretty authentic.
  • the very thought of limp crusted pizza makes my stomach turn a little. i hope i never have to endure NY style pizza. gross.
  • I was born in raised in NY and I'd given up on finding anything even resembling NY pizza in MN.  I will definitely be giving Andrea's a try.  I've tried all of the others mentioned in this thread and none of them are close to NY pizza.

Now I need a rec for NY chinese food.   The thought of MN chinese food makes me cry.

Even Ramy's? My NY born and raised friend loves it.
