WWYD?

I am invited to a baby shower and can't decide if I should go or not.  I have never met momma to be.  I work with her dad and DH works for them once a year.  I met grandmother to be when I had B.

I had planned to make them a hairbow holder with her bedding fabric and get them something from her registry... I won't know anyone there but feel a bit obligated to go.

Would you go or just send a gift?

Re: WWYD?

  • Personally, I would just send a gift, but I'm antisocial like that.

  • I would just send a gift. I would feel awkward going to a shower when I didn't even know the momma to be (and probably wouldn't know anyone else there).
  • I would neither go, nor send a gift. It doesn't sound like you know the immediate family (mom, dad, or baby to be) at all.

  • Just send a gift. A small one, since you don't know them very well. I don't know why the mother-to-be would want women she hasn't ever met to come to her shower. That's just awkward for everyone.

  • Inviting someone to your shower that you barely know just seems gift-grabby to me. At the most, I'd send a card with a gift card to a baby store or something. Likely, though, I would just do nothing.

    Agree.

  • I agree that it was awkward of her to invite you when she doesn't even know you. At most, I would give a small gift to her dad the next time you see him but I don't even think you really need to do that.

Did her or her family get you a gift when you had B? That could be a determining factor on whether I got her something or not Stick out tongue

  • A bit more info, her dad and I work together on a daily basis and I talk to his wife weekly because she writes my check.  :)  As odd as it is, they did get us a gift when I had B that included dinner.  It was something small but at the time they were simply Christmas light customers.  I started working with him when B was 2 months old.  It is more of a business friend relationship than anything else but I feel like they want me to go.

I don't have the invite yet but when I asked about the bedding yesterday I was told that a gift was not being requested from us but they still wanted B and me to come.  She said that DH and I have been blessing enough.  :)

OH!!! And turns out I actually did at one time know mom to be!  When I pulled up one of the registries I noticed her maiden name (different from mom and dad), I went to elementary school with her!  It is a freaking small world!

I don't think I will go but I will at the very least drop a present off for them.
