lawn mower recs

I need recommendations for a walk-behind, self-propelled, lawn mower with a motor. :) Thanks ladies!

Re: lawn mower recs

  • No advice as to brand, but I had a difficult ime getting my tractor serviced because so many indpendent lawn guys are being undercut by big box stores. I got my Deere from an indpendent otherwise I couldn't find someone to service it. Not sure if it applies to walk behinds, but it was frustrating to have to make 6 calls to get help.
  • Honda, hands down! They always start up the first pull of the season and we never have any problems out of them. The first one we got was a hand me down from my inlaws that was 20 years old. The transmission gave out several years ago, but it still works just fine. We bought a new one after that and have had zero problems from it as well.
  • Toro personal pace recycler. It goes with your speed no matter what pace you walk. It also cuts the grass and redistributes it (which serves as a type of mulch and feed for a healthy lawn as long as it isn't too long). The one with the larger back wheel is great. They sell them at Home Depot.

We have this also.  We bought ours online so I could get the model they sell in CA to be CARB compliant, low emsisson.  You can also find where to buy on the toro website.
