ava asked for butterflies and garden stuff for her birthday party. i am designing a printable invite in microsoft publisher with butterflies on it. i may make butterfly sugar cookies with royal icing as part of the favor - and the other item could be pinwheels - i can get that at a dollar store, right?
this means i can drop the barbie dress cake for now. instead, we may slice ice cream and use the butterfly cookie cutter to make butterfly slices, and let the kids decorate their piece with sprinkles, crushed cookies, m&ms, whipped cream, cherries - a sort of themed ice cream bar.
i'm sure i can find some little decorations at the party good store - we do this outside, so i don't need that much.
any great ideas? maybe decor wise or games? we do have a bounce house and a slip and slide and sprinkler thing that attaches to the hose that we can put out, like last year.
Re: any butterfly/garden theme party ideas?
I think all of that sounds great
Maybe you can help plan dd's first birthday for me!
And, i fyou want to take her to see real butterflies...there is a butterfly farm in the town next to mine...I've lived there all my life and although it ihasn't been there that long, it has been there for years I guess...I only found out about it when looking for my wedding....

Whoa -- hold up -- speaking as a former kid who freaked out at the sight of any flying insect, you could have a major freak out on your hands if some of the kids get wigged out by butterflies and other flying insects like I would have. Just sayin'

Okay, apparently I'm going to be the party-pooper of this post, because I also just saw this article about a bunch of kids getting hurt when the bounce house they were playing in got picked up and blown around by a big gust of wind. Might want to tether that sucker down good. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/05/new.york.floating.houses/index.html?hpt=hp_p1&iref=NS1

we also talked about dirt cake! but we'd make indiv ones in clear plastic tumblers. it's either that or the ice cream butterfly.
i'm pretty sure dh always tethers the bounce house down - he's a stickler for that sort of thing. and we never let kids of very different sizes in there together either. that's asking for the smaller one to be trampled or for broken bones!
My dollar store has tons of butterfly party decorations, always does.
Check out target bins for nets, cages. Also wings for the kids?

This site has lots of butterfly inspiration or you can buy the supplies from them. They also have a good selection of butterfly cake or cupcake decorations.
