I need options of my nestie ladies.
With all the stuff going on in my life I went back on the pill. Well it's made me gain weight and it's making me a raging b*tch. I've been on trivora, trisprentic and am now on loestrin24fe. I've been getting the same side effects with all three. I am thinking about trying depo-provera (the shot). Has anyone used it before? What kind of side effects did you experience? Anything else work well for you?
Thanks!
Re: Birth Control
The pill never worked well with my body - I was on the patch but found that had yucky side effects in the bedroom. (PM me if you really want details). I was on the ring prior to TTC - I didn't know that I was one of the women that would have a drop in my sex drive as a side effect until I went off it. My attitude changed big time!
Did you ask for the low dose hormone pill?
I personally will never be on BC again in any form because I hated the way it affected my body. BUT if I HAD HAD HAD to be back on BC - I would pick the ring again.
My sister was on the shot for years - it depletes the body of calcium over time and can do a number on your bones. She seemed to like it though so I guess she wasn't too concerned.
I only know 2 people who have had the shot and both had pretty negative experiences. My sister and cousin were both on it and after stopping the shot, they weren't ovulating regularly and both had/have difficulty conceiving since it took so long for their bodies to regulate again. The hormones can still linger in your body past the 6 months that the shot works for. It could simply be coincidence and not necessarily related to the shot, but both of them hated it and due to that, I wouldn't consider the shot. Again, this is not an expert opinion -- just my experience.

The one I am on is low dose hormone, it's not much different. Maybe i'll see if I can try something else.
Fire it up, Let's go get this thing stuck
My SIL gained a lot of weight when she started the shot, she still gets it though and seems to like it.
When I took the bc pill, I was on ortho-tricylen lo and really liked it. Since having the kids I have the Mirena IUD and LOVE IT!
I was on the ring for about three years and the only side effect I noticed was a decreased drive.
I've also heard of a few people who were on the shot and had pretty negative experiences.
Good luck in finding something that works for you!
Just FYI -- you might not be ovulating even though you are having a regular period. I am not trying to be snarky, I just want to point out that this is not always the case.
True - I was getting my period but not ovulating for a while.
My friend claims the shot made her depressed and crazy. I did good on the pill, so I stuck with that until we were TTC.
I'm not sure on the levels of the ones you tried. I took Mircette for 10 years, and didn't have any weight gain, bad skin, or loss of sex drive. That was also my 4th kind I tried. It just took time to find the one that worked for my body. I will be going back on the same pill once I get my periods back.
I only know one person who was ever on the shot and she absolutely hated it. Same things as PP's: mood swings, depression, weight gain, etc. I was on a low-dose birth control before my pregnancy and wasn't super happy with it. I had a really hard time losing weight and it made my depression worse. I developed Severe Pre-Eclampsia and severe HELLP Syndrome at 29 weeks pregnant so my OB wouldn't let me on ANYTHING with hormones so my only option was ParaGard, the copper IUD. Heavier periods and worse cramping so far but no hormone side effects and no hypertension because of the synthetic hormones.
Also, be careful with the NuvaRing. I read an article about how the 3rd and 4th generation synthetic hormones in the ring can make it significantly higher chances of developing blood clots. There's actually a class action law suit against it so if you choose that, do some research about it.
