Completely hypothetical fashion question

Is this jacket suitable for an interview? Or is it too not-black-suit-coat enough? Completely hypothetically.

Re: Completely hypothetical fashion question

  • I like it.

  • I'd wear it on an interview.  I love it.  It's conservative with a bit of flair.

  • I think it depends on the job/company.  I work for an advertising company and sometimes it can be overkill to wear a traditional suit.  It is a lot more casual, and expressing some individuality is important, so something like that would be perfect.  I went on a few interviews last fall and wore something similar -- or sometimes a dress with a bolero sweater.

However, for some industries (i.e. banking), I think a traditional suit would always be preferred.

ETA: Personally, I think that jacket is super cute and would totally wear it.  I might recommend wearing it with very simple jewelry for an interview.  You don't want to have too much going on.

  • I think it's totally acceptable - and I hypothetically hope the hypothetical interview goes well.

Hypothetically, it is not a traditional-suit kind of place. Dress there appears to be nice jeans and tops, some khakis, no real suits.

    I think it's perfect then.

Good luck.  Hypothetically, of course.  Smile

With that being the case I think it would be perfect. It's super cute!

  • I think it would be fine.  It's professional looking yet has a little style.

  • With you saying it is a less conservative environment then yes it works with a pair of conservative black pants and closed toe closed heel heels :)

Black closed toe closed heel shoes? The only ones I have like that 'lace' up the back... but I suppose no one will look at the back of my heel?

  • I also think it's fine since the place is not a traditional office.

    SUPER CUTE jacket, btw!

  • It's really cute!  Where is it from?

As long as the place is younger and more casual, I'd wear it.  When I interviewed people, I would have thought that was cute, but my old school boss, would probably make a comment after you left.

What color shirt would you wear under it?

And also, good luck on your interview!

Black, probably. It's from White House Black Market about 3 seasons ago. I love it.

  • I think it's very cute and would be fine for an interview.  I also think the shoes you described sound perfectly fine too.
  • Ok follow-up question: Should I take out my nose piercing? It's a tiny tiny stud, most people don't notice it, but still.

I would. I just work in a super conservative enviornment..I wear business suits everyday...vomit. I do think though every interview no matter what you should always look conservative-but let your edge show..like your jacket is cute, and then keep it conservative with the closed heels and then the piercing out, you NEVER know if the place has a policy against certain things and you don't want to break the policy during an interview
