Alzi

I need to have DD's hearing tested again.  The only place my surgeon will recommend is All Children's, which is fine.  We had her first tests done there, but insurance didn't cover any of it.  Can you recommend any other Bay area facilities that do pediatric hearing exams?  From there I'll research insurance coverage and options.  Just was curious if you knew of any other place that is "good" where we could go this time.

  • Butting in...what insurance do you have?  Even if they don't cover all children's they should be able to reimburse you especially if there are no pediatric audiologists on your plan.
  • Can I hijack this thread?

Alzi, do you know if TMJ causes hearing problems? A little background, about 18 months ago I was having a lot of pain in my jaw area and my hearing was all messed up, its hard to explain.. kinda like when you need to pop you ears when flying or being underwater, I went to 2 doctors and 1 dentist and basically was told its TMJ and there was nothing they could do. Ever since then my hearing has been "off". I honestly dont think its TMJ but pressure from my crooked wisdom teeth that she wont pull because she thinks its unrelated.

  • DD has Humana.  All Children's, the facility, is covered, but the testing was not.  Between the hearing exam and blood work up, it was $1k out of pocket.  I need to research her plan more thoroughly at lunch to see what I can come up with.  She has to have it done, so I guess if I have to pay another $1k, I have to pay it.

TMJ can cause ear pain, and if you feel pressure/your ears popping then you may have some loss....only way to know is by getting it tested. Have you seen an ENT? They would likely have your hearing tested as part of the check up.

Humana is contacted with HearX for hearing testing services (at least for adults)...I would HOPE it would be different for children. Do NOT have her tested at a HearX......

  • Jumping in.  I used to work for BayCare Health System in their finance office.  St. Joseph's has a pediatric audiology clinic.  I'm familiar with two of the Audiologists are they are both great.  I know the hospital is contracted with Humana, but you would have to check her benefits directly.  You may end up paying the same amount no matter where you go, depending on deductible, co-insurance, etc.

Yeah, I know.  Just trying to find the cheapest option for the best care.
