Bittersweet mood.

I just talked to one of my best friends on the phone for like an hour. You may remember me writing about 6 weeks ago that her mom passed away after a nasty nasty NASTY fight with brain cancer for several years. Her mom watched me grow up, and I miss her terribly.

I'm feeling bittersweet. My friend sounded great - moving forward, holding her head high, and would make her mom proud the way she is handling everything. (She and her brother are settling everything - her step dad passed about 7 years ago, and her biological dad is out of the picture.) There has been a lot of things for them to handle.

She sounded so good on the phone, which makes me so happy. I'm so proud of her - her mom really raised her to be a strong, successful, wonderful woman. But this one the first lengthy conversation we have had (we were on the phone like an hour) since her mom passed. We talked about her mom quite a bit and how wonderful and amazing and inspiring she was, and it made me a little sad.

  • Wow, your friend really sounds strong!  Stay supportive.  I would not be surprised if it is sometimes hard to always stay that strong.  Things must be really tough for her and her brother to take care of.  She sounds amazing.

  • You're allowed to be a little sad. When it comes to friend's parents, sometimes they are almost a parent to you too, so it's ok to feel this way. And I think it shows just how close you are to feel this way.

Keep being supportive to your friend, and try to talk to her more often. I think it will help both of you heal :)
