Not sure if I was wrong or not

I stepped on a nail last week and so far have missed 3 days of work over it. I went in to work today and saw that the entire contents of the store's bakery had been moved onto the sales floor. 4 tables, 4 storage racks, EVERYTHING. The fryer was dismantled and I was never taught how to put it together. Nobody could help me move things back and because of my foot, I couldn't do it by myself. I called my boss and he didn't answer. Talked to the night manager who had nothing to say except to call my boss. I literally could not do my job. So, I cleared it with the night manager and left. I also left my boss a note telling him what happened even though the voicemail I left him said the same thing. I am now absurdly afraid that I am going to be in trouble. Was I wrong?

Re: Not sure if I was wrong or not

  • I can see why you're worried. Were there other employees there?

  • So the night manager gave you the OK to leave? Was he/she also working at the time or did you literally close up the shop, lock the doors, and go home?

If there were other employees there, I wouldn't be concerned. If it was just you, I would have done what I could for the evening (for example, just put up a sign that said, "Unfortunately, due to a mechanical problem, fried items are not available today.") and continued working.

  • Yeah, he gave me the OK. Later on denied it though. There were a gunch of other people there but nobody who could do my job. I work in a 24 hour grocery store. What's funny is they blew up my phone at 6am and begged me to go in, then I did...and after I was done biiitched me out for having left despite the fact that it was authorized. Shouldn't have gone back in.
