Horrible day, all because of one little...

bug!  My husband started traveling out of town for work, staying in cheap hotels because thats what the company will pay for. Well, I kept telling him to unpack his bag in the laundry room, throw his stuff right in the wash and put his bag into a garbage bag in the garage.  Well, I am so mad at him today. .. he comes home and sets his bag in the bedroom and with me working extra days forgot about it and what do I wake up to this morning?  A cockroach right on his bedside stand.  I was livid.  We have lived here ten years and never had a bug problem until he started traveling and now this.  Needless to say I tore apart our bedroom, cleaned from top to bottom.. nothing was left unturned and sprayed with Ortho home defense.  The entire upstairs got done after twelve straight hours of cleaning!!  I am exhausted and have to do the down stairs tomorrow.  Needless to say he won't be doing that again!!  Not even taking his bag into the hotel room is an option, I told him to leave it in his work truck and then take in a change of clothes only.. and his toiletries in a ziploc.  Sooo.. my question is what are the odds that I won't see anymore?  I didn't see any after this one this morning.  I cleaned liked crazy not because my house needed it but because I saw one just to begin with.  ... and sprayed as well.  Think I got em??

  • Probably so.  I think you are over-reacting about the whole thing...it's a little rediculous to not allow your husband to take his bag into a hotel room when he travels so much and he forgot to follow your directions once.  Just put something on the door into the house that will remind him where he should leave his bag when he gets home.

  • Definite over-reaction. It's only a bug. Life goes on. Watch for more and then call an exterminator.

  • I understand your horrid of cockroaches...I do sympathize there.  Is it possible that it is a coincidence though? We have an exterminator and don't "have" roaches, but once every few years a sewer roach will find its way up.  I also think making your husband keep his suitcase in his car is taking it too far.  Maybe you can just ask him to empty it outside before bringing it in the house.

  • Is this mud?  I hope it is mud.

  • If he brought ONE home with him, it likely won't reproduce that quickly. It's just one bug. The house I'm in now doesn't have roaches, but occassionally one HUGE one will get in from outside. It doesn't lead to an infestation, it's just gross.

I'd be more worried about bed bugs. Just tell him to not put his suitcase on a hotel bed - use a luggage rack. The rest if kind of an overreaction.
