A different jacuzzi tub cleaning Q...

Our house is 10 years old and sat empty for almost 5. We have been here for 2 years now and even with regular cleanings, our jacuzzi tub still spits out black gunk when you turn the jets on Ick!

Any suggestions on what to do about that?? I've filled the tub up w/ water and bleach, soap, dishwasher detergent (all separately ;), I've cleaned the jets out w/ a q-tip.... I've let the jets run for over 30 mins at a time and then scrubbed everything afterwards and ran them again, repeat.... What else can I do? Or is this something I have to call a pro in for?

Re: A different jacuzzi tub cleaning Q...

  • In my old home I was able to remove the nozzles from each  jet with a screw driver - then each of these were cleaned in the dishwasher . Once the jets came off  the  holes for the jets were bigger and i used a cleaning crystal product that I bought from  home depot - then i left it on for 10 minutes . Then it had to be flushed with regular hot water .

Hope this helps - if not it sounds like you may need a pro or check online with the manufacturer and see what they recommend.Possibly replacing the lines or tubing .

    Good luck

  • Thank you! I will try that tomorrow.

  • You could try vinegar. It may be hard water build up, or something like it.

  • There is a product called something like "Whirl Out" that I got at Home Depot. It worked wonderfully as I had almost the same problem as you described. I did need to use it twice before I felt the problem had been fixed. Also, in researching a new steam mop with attachments, a review that I saw said the woman used one of the nozzled attachments in the jets and tons of black stuff came out. Not sure if you have one of those either, but might be worth a shot if you do!

I bought this from Lowe's based on a recommendation from the repair guy that replaced the pump on our tub.  He said that bleach is NOT good to use because it eventually eats away at lining of the pipes.
