BR: Registry question for moms:)

Gahh. I'm getting stressed. People are already asking us where we're regsitered. I still don't even know what to register for! I guess I need to get on that asap.

What did most of you register for besides things like carseats, highchairs and strollers? I seriously feel like I have zero clue. What big ticket items did you not put on the registry (besides furniture)?

Did you just register at one store? Which one(s)? I'll probably just do Babies R Us since they have so many locations.

TIA!! :)

Re: BR: Registry question for moms:)

  • Rule #1.) Don't waste your time registering for clothes. You're going to get a TON anyway.

Also, go ahead and put your breast pump on there. You never know who might get it for you.

Big stuff, obvs. But also things like pacifiers, bottles (for when you pump or supplement if necessary), receiving blankets, a bathtub, bath stuff, small toys, bouncy seat, bumbo, swing.

You can put diapers on there, but you'll probably get a lot anyway. Also don't get your heart set on a specific brand because you never know how your baby will react to them. (Unless you plan to cloth diaper? I dunno.) But the good thing about diapers is that they're easily exchanged.

ETA: We just did Walmart and Target. We don't have a BRU though.

  • I've said it once, I'll say it again -- The Baby Bargains Book was a GREAT resource for what to register for.  As overwhleming as it seems, it really narrowed down what you needed vs what you can do without.

We registered at BRU for just about everything, and at Bed Bath & Beyond for our nursery bedding.

For "high-end" items we didn't have furniture, but we had just about everything else -- travel system, high chair, car seats, pack 'n play.  Also, a breastpump if you're planning on nursing -- it can never hurt to have everything and anything on there, and who knows, someone might surprise you and get it!

Just don't register for clothes.  You will get PLENTY.

My registry is still up at BRU if you want to check it out.

  • Ditto what Ames and MB said. You may stalk my registry if you want :) we bought all the furniture, mattress, stroller, swing, baby carrier, Brest pump, monitor and some cloth diapers. We also just picked up 'the seahorse' that everyone recommended on this board.
  • Mine is still up also if u want to look. We didn't put our furniture or stroller on there or our bedding, these items we bought by us or family before the shower. Also like Amelia said, no clothes you will get so much especially since ppl know it's a girl. The baby bargains book is great, also the list babies r us gives u is a good starting point. You can add and delete what you think you will need. Make sure you out whatever you want because even I you don't get it at your shower you can get it on your own with your 10% completion coupon, if it's not on there than you can't put your 10% towards it.

  • This is long, but I read it all and it really helped. http://www.lucieslist.com/ Other than that, as I'm 3 weeks behind you, I haven't registered either, but thanks for asking so I can learn from the other mamas as well.

    PS, You're half baked today!

  • https://www.buybuybaby.com/regGiftRegistry.asp?wrn=-1220281803& Sorry it isn't clicky, I'm on my phone. That was ours but I did change it a couple times. I initially didn't register for any onesies or anything but after my first shower, I hardly received any so I added some. We didn't put the furniture on and we purchased our snap and go stroller off Craigslist. We also didn't get bedding. I didn't get a breast pump. I never planned on EBF so I didn't feel I needed one. I did just end up getting a cheaper single one. It was only $40. I don't have a stash though. I just pump when I absolutely have to. We received the majority of what we registered for. We were very lucky to have such generous friends and family. I didn't use baby bargains but I've been around baby stuff for so long. I just went with stuff I liked and knew worked well. So far things have been great. The only thing I don't think I needed was the ultimate crib sheet but who knows if once he's older it'll be more helpful. He doesn't soil his sheets so I haven't found it helpful yet.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • Thanks girls! That helps! I'll definitely be stalking your registries :)
  • I stalked friends registries and talked to people for a while before I decided on what to register for. I also went to buy buy baby and babies r us to test things before we bought or registered for anything. advice on items like strollers etc.. look to see what type you want and what car seats go with them. see how they would fit into the car, how easy they are to use or to stow and go from there. I have a friend who loved her stroller but it doesnt fit in her trunk...

I also blog on the things I love so far- feel free to look in link in siggy- I should be adding more this week.

also remember- you can always return something if you change your mind. I kept everything in boxes until she came home minus the crib, carseat and stroller. we are glad we waited on some things

  • Feel free to stalk my BRU registry as well.

Def register for anything you like/will need. It gives quite a price range for guests, so some can go in together on gifts, or if they can't afford much still have options. We didn't do any clothes though. We got plenty and had to exchange some (like the 6-9 month shorts outfits, it will be dead of winter here, even if he is wearing them early!)

     Have fun registering! Smile
