Abington Hosptial Pregnancy & Childbirth Classes

I was browsing through the various classes that Abington Hospital offers during pregnancy and wondered if anyone here has taken any classes and what they thought of them?

Re: Abington Hosptial Pregnancy & Childbirth Classes

  • I took the hospital tour (which is great! and free!) but I never made it far enough for the breastfeeding class. I'm hoping to take it this time around.

  • We did the one day Childbirth Education class and honestly it wound up being a waste of time.  They spent a ton of time teaching stuff like how your DH can massage you with a tennis ball to help labor pain, and then we watched a weird video of a birth- very junior high health class.

Also, don't know if by chance you plan to or know you will need to have a c-section, but they did not show the operating rooms or recovery rooms for those patients, and all discussion of actual birth and healing were geared toward vaginal birth.  One girl in our class was upset because when she asked about when we would discuss c-section stuff (she was already planning one), the nurse doing the class said that this class was for vaginal births (there didn't seem to be a class geared toward c-sections exclusively anywhere though).  I didn't plan a section, but wound up with one -so really, unless DH wanted to bring a tennis ball and massage me with it, that class was absolutely useless.

  • So I see you've updated your siggy and are planning on birthing classes. You realize you're going to make me look bad, right?

  • I took the hospital tour and thought it was a waste.  We didnt really get to see anything.

And DH and I also took the one day birthing class.  It was very informational and I really liked the instructor.  You could tell it was geared more towards a natural drug free birth but they did tell us about the epidural.
