degree in materials management or logistics??

Hi, I'm sneaking over from another board....

I've always done factory work/warehousing, etc. I don't mind the work so much but it doesn't pay much and isn't completely reliable in the long run... so I'm looking at going back to school. Right now I'm pretty interested in materials management/ logistics. I was just wondering if anyone here actually has a degree in this and if you could tell me a little about what you are doing with your degree?? The school I'm looking at offers an A.S. in logistics. So I was thinking I could go get my associates and get started in a career while I'm working on my bachelors... would this be beneficial at all or should I just go straight to my Bachelors? For the record, I already have 21 credits of my general education completed. I'm going to need to work while in school any way I look at it... I'm just not really sure how beneficial an A.S. is even going to be though... any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: degree in materials management or logistics??

  • MH has his MA in Supply Chain (he's an assoc professor as well). He says you're prob better off getting a certification (CSCP) than an AS, which is possibly even better than a BS.

He said CSCP and/or CPIM might be your best bet, according to DH.

    HTH!

  • Good friend has a BA degree in Business, with a concentration in Logistics. She works for a Fortune 50 company in their office, not in the factory (although there are alot of factory positions as well). Went to a state university for her degree. Works 65 hour weeks though, but loves her job!
  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to look into the CSCP...
