We just moved into a brand new house with an unfinished basement. There's dust all OVER this basement. Obviously I can sweep or shop vac this floor, but is there a way to get rid of the dust for good? When we go down there to get something out of the deep freeze foot prints then go across my wood floors so I would LOVE some suggestions!!

Re: Poured Cement Floor
A cement floor shouldn't be creating more dust, should it? That sounds weird to me (note, I come from a land with no basements, so what do I know. But we have concrete foundations, garages, patios, etc and they don't keep making dust). Is it not shiny and hard and not flaking?
Maybe clean the heck out of it and seal it with something? Paint, polyurethane, etc?
In the meantime until you get the dust under control, how about a rug to wipe your feet on at the top of the stairs? Maybe at the bottom of the stairs too.
Ditto to the rug.
If the basement is unfinished, what does the ceiling look like? Our house is almost 100 years old and we have an unfinished basement. There are plenty of dusty cobwebs between the beams that support the floor to the main level of our house. When you walk through the house, the vibrations from your steps cause the dust to fall down onto the floor. Sweeping/vacuuming between the beams may help.
