Would you flush it? (Poll)
I grew up with a septic system, so I do not flush anything down the toilet (except TP and the obvious), but now that I have a house that has a septic system (which is acting up at the moment), I'm worried that guests will flush their sanitary products down the toilet (which could damage the septic system=$$$). After all you see signs in public restrooms sometimes asking people not to flush them so I'm curious if others would flush them or not.
[poll]
* I would never think of flushing a sanitary pad down any toilet, but it's on a list of things not to flush down toilets with septic systems, along with tampons, cat litter, disposable diapers, paper towels, facial tissues, coffee grounds, cigarette butts, and similar items.

Re: Would you flush it? (Poll)
No I neeeever flush that stuff. One of my worst fears is that it would back up on my friend's floor. Worst case if there was no trashcan, I'd wrap it up really well in tp and put it in my purse to walk to a trashcan (ew- luckily there is always a trash can).
My sister has had to replace her septic tank. So now whenever a woman walks in her house she opens the door and says- "Welcome to our home!- don't flush anything down our toilet"-- haha we are a classy bunch.
I was debating if I should hang a nice sign in my bathroom when I have people over that I think may be guilty of flushing stuff down the toilet (i.e. people that live where there are sewers, which even includes some new build areas of my town). I know it would probably be pretty tacky, but at the same time replacing/repairing septic systems is not cheap.

I don't use tampons, so I picked special snowflake. I would never flush a pad! That's weird. I didn't think you were supposed to flush those with ANY sort of plumbing?!?! People do that???
I DO flush cat litter, but only the kind I use that's made from corn. I would never flush clay litter.
Missing our little turkey.

I voted the second option. I typically don't flush any femine products. I wrap in tissue and put in garbage can. However, if there isn't one in the bathroom, then I would resort to flushing, but I can't remember ever having to do this.
Ha, this is why (femine products) I insist on having a step-garbage can in the bathroom (or at least something with a lid). That way you don't have to be reminded of those things, or see them in the trash.

This is me too Xan. I have sewer in my house but my parents had a septic and we all (three girls) flushed tampons, but not pads. Who the heck flushes pads??
I have been thinking about getting the diva cup, my BF swears by hers. Eeva, do you have the actual "diva cup" or one of the other brands?
