Kim Kardashian's Ring

.....20.5 carats!!  Is that really necessary?!

Kind of crazy that a MN boy is marrying someone so famous!

Re: Kim Kardashian's Ring

  • I think anything above 2-3 carats is obnoxious.  Her ring cost half the price of her house.  Indifferent

I wonder what it would be like to be in a couple with such an extreme height difference.  He is always looking down at the top of her head and her neck probably hurts from looking up at him.  :-)

Yes, I totally agree!!  Give the money to charity or something, it is such a waste!  Guaranteed she's not going to be able to wear that thing all the time, it would get snagged on everything!  She'll probably need some expensive wedding band that is ridiculously over priced!! GAH!

I know a couple that has a big height difference, and I have often wondered that!  They are the cutest couple though! Dancing has to be quite awkward, I would imagine!

  • I saw some pictures of it online and it looks nice but you'd think for all that money it would be really unique. I'm sure she probably paid for it. I can't imagine he's making enough (or is dumb enough) to spend $2 mil on a ring.

  • i know some people would say if they earn enough money then they should be able to have it but i think this is just complete gluttony. what on EARTH do you need a 20 carat ring for? go for 5 carats or something with a crazy unique design and wow the world with a very generous gift to a hospital or charity. (not to mention the tax write off).

    it's gross.

  • I agree that it is disgusting and totally not a functional ring by any stretch.  As a side note: on what planet do you wear an engagement ring on your right hand?  Am I missing something here?

    No Siggy

  • I'd be worried about someone constantly wanting to kill me to steal it.

With Kim K, I highly doubt it is the top of her HEAD that he is looking down at!

I would agree that a ring that massive is ridiculous and not just impractical but tacky . . . however, I guess that means it fits the recipient even better!

    How tall are you guys?

  • She'll always know if he is wearing deodorant or not.
    Anniversary
  • I think it's tacky as shiit, and I'd never wear it. BUT they're in a position to afford it, so who cares.  It's kind of in her nature to be over-the-top anyway, ya know?  I really don't understand the idea that they should just donate that money to charity instead. Ok, so should no one own a 2 mil house either? Because, a $500,000 house will do just fine, too.

FWIW, Kate Middleton's (i.e. Diana's) ring is about 18.5 carats, and no one is saying that one is too big. Just because it's not a diamond? Is that the difference? Or the fact that she's royalty?
  • I wanted to find a picture of this.  When I was looking I read that Kate Middleton?s ring is 18 carates?.hers is not ridiculously tacky. I couldn?t find a picture of Kim?s.  They say it is a 16 carate diamond in the middle of two other diamonds.   The ring designer said she knew Kim had been dreaming about a big diamond her whole life and her hubby wanted to wow her, but didn?t pick the biggest one he could have.  J

I don?t know?.I really wanted a big ring too ( big enough to me was at least a carate) and I got one, had we been wealthier I would have liked a 2 carate.  I can imagine that a 2-4 carate ring would be really disappointing to a girl as wealthy as herself if she ?always dreamed of a big ring?. I do think a couple million for a ring is a nuts amount, but I cannot fathom what it feels to have that much money?.I am sure a lot of people think paying $6,000 for a ring is crazy but I do not.

Ok, but how much money does Kris Humphries have?  Isn't he the one that should be buying the ring? It just bugs me, it's such a waste...she's not going to be able to wear that ring daily, so what's the point?

It was his mother's ring, so I'm sure that's why no one made a stink about it.  He didn't spend a crap ton of money for it, that's the difference...

She could have gotten a 5-6 carat ring (or even 10, if she needs something over the top)....still ridiculous, but not a "disappointment."

  • grr. Quoting isn't working for some reason, so bear with me.

I just don't understand the judging.  It's one thing to say "that's one ugly ring" as everyone is entitled to an opinion.  I just think it's rude to talk about how someone spends their money.  Maybe they don't want to donate it to charity. It's their money, they can spend it however they want.

Who cares? If he thinks he can afford it, let him buy it. AND, H and I bought my ring together. Maybe she contributed to the cost, maybe she didn't. None of my business.

It was his mother's ring, so I'm sure that's why no one made a stink about it.  He didn't spend a crap ton of money for it, that's the difference...

Did anyone make a stink about how much Charles paid for the ring originally when he gave it to Diana? (I have no clue about the history of the ring.)  Either way, why do you care about how someone else spent their money?

She could have gotten a 5-6 carat ring (or even 10, if she needs something over the top)....still ridiculous, but not a "disappointment."

Well, quite honestly? I think 2 carat rings are usually too big, but I'm not judging anyone for spending their money on it if that's what they want. I also think it's a waste of money to buy a $500,000 house, but again- to each their own. Why is 5-6 carats or 10 carats the magical cut off? Honestly, I doubt I'd even know the difference in appearance of a 10 carat vs 25 carat ring.

  • I'm just stating my opinion, they can spend their money any way they like (obviously).

  • Oy.  This post has gone into eye-rolly territory for me.  Of course none of us are seriously THAT worried about her ring.  Huh?

  • There's speculation that Kim's ring was paid by her or her mom, or that it's rented. I don't think Kris Humphries makes enough yet to afford a ring that expensive. They also kept the engagement quiet until the People magazine cover, so it may also be a publicity stunt. Who knows with the Kardashians.

I just read this morning that the E! cameras just happened to catch the proposal on camera for their show.  I'm sure that was a coincidence and not planned at ALL!  Wink

That's what I was hoping ;) But then there was more debate.  It's probably just because budgets get judged/flamed all the time on TheKnot side, so I'm used to defending that.

I'm late to this thread, but in Greece, Germany and (I assume) other countries, it's common to wear an engagement ring on the right hand.

very eye roll. we're all entitled to our opinions and i can see both sides of the "arguments" on this one. i can agree to disagree without getting all riled up. it's a ring after all, not child abuse.

  • imagedestination09:

There are lots of places where people wear engagement/wedding rings on their right hand, particularly in Europe. Our Norwegian relatives wear their rings on their right hands.

  • Oh, and I think the ring is over-the-top, but I'm probably not the best judge since my engagement ring had no diamonds at all. I would never want a 20-carat diamond ring, but I wouldn't want a little 1/4 carat diamond ring either.

They can choose to spend their money however they want. If I had $2 million sitting around, I can think of a ton of things I'd rather spend it on than a 20-carat engagement ring, but that's just my choice.
