She woke up last night and threw up a few times, this is her first tummy flu. She was thankfully only sick 3 times. But now she is also running a fever of 101.5. Is a fever common with a stomach flu in kids? I have never had a fever with a stomach flu. Poor little thing is laying on the floor sleeping right now she wont eat but is drinking a little. I am just not sure if with the fever it could be something else?

Re: Poor Grace is so sick :(
I don't think a fever is common with the stomach flu, but maybe Grace just got a doozy. It's also possible that she has a stomach virus and some other virus causing the fever.
Helen has also been sick with a 102 fever the last couple of days (after having a cold the whole last week). She threw up once Sunday night but I think that was just the combination of a tummy full of milk + coughing from post-nasal drip.
Keeping on top of giving Helen Tylenol or Motrin for the fever has helped a lot. When her fever is down, she's almost like normal. A couple of times we didn't give her a dose of medicine exactly on schedule and she was hot and miserable again.
One "trick" that worked well with Helen when she has a stomach virus is to let her have a lollipop when she can't keep down water. That way her mouth stayed wet and she stopped begging for drinks.
That is so clever! I hope I can remember that for several years down the road.
I also hope both girls get better soon!
Poor girls!
Ridley had to be hospitalized overnight about a week ago because of viral gastroenteritis. Apparently it is going around right now and lots of kids have shown up in the ER, only to be admitted. I tried my best to keep her hydrated when she was throwing up, but she couldn't even keep water down. They had to give her anti-nausea medication and an IV. It was great fun! Keep an eye on it. If the fever goes away and she is still lethargic, take her to the doctor. That is a sure sign of dehydration.
Good luck!
