Jeez, are some people bitter!!!

I am aghast right now at some of the emails, texts and FB statuses I'm seeing from my friends.

Literally--I have my mouth open that's how surprised I am right now.

Seriously, vile, vile stuff.

I am trying to put myself in their shoes--and to think how disillusioned and unhappy I'd be if my candidate had lost last night but...I don't think I would have been able to muster up some of this anger.

Disappointment and sadness yes...but anger? And directing it specifically at friends that voted for the other person?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Sorry. Just needed to get that off my chest for a second.

Re: Jeez, are some people bitter!!!

  • That's interesting. I haven't seen a single negative FB posting yet. True, most of my peeps are Dems, but I do have some Rep friends and they are pretty silent this morning.
  • One of Dylanites friends made a post on his website that he thinks the election was stolen.

    Yep. Stolen.

That was a lot of stolen votes.

  • I got a FB smack down from a Libertarian.  Whatever.

  • Now you guys are making me want to check my facebook. ?But, I'm kind of scared. ?I have quite a few crazy conservative friends.

ETA: I shouldn't have looked. ?"is pretty sure that in order to vote you should be a HOME?owner or be able to pass an IQ test"

Damn. ?At least I don't know this person IRL.?

  • A girl I went to grade school/high school with had a long, bitter FB status message last night that ended with: "...he will never be my president." WTF?!

I might not like W, but I'd never say that he's not my president. I'd just say I don't like my president.

  • Honestly...I'm just sitting here stunned. And really, really sad.

I'm trying to be empathetic. But I don't think I've ever been as vicious as some of the emails I've gotten today. It's just really disheartening. It is what it is...

  • one of my friends on FB put a message saying "Terrorists win!"

    Unbelievable.

Most of my Republican friends have been somewhat civil. One said "I was always an American"-- I dont know what she is implying by that. Others are just saying they hope the US made the right decision.

Ditto. One posting says he's "confused what to think" but the rest have been silent or joyful.

  • Really?  The worst status I've seen from a republican friend is "__ is going to be drunk for 4 the next years straight".

Even a girl who likes to stir sh*t with liberals has the status "___is saying congrats to all of the Obama supporters. Forgive me though for not wanting to talk about it."

My uber-conservative fundy baptist friend has a status about praying for God's will, which is like just about any day for her. :)

Those are all midwestern republicans.  My Northeast republican friends have statuses like, "__is not excited about trickle up economics, I hope the companies we work for can weather the storm." and "__'s first question for you president Obama - how you gonna fix my 401k?"

The rest pretty much have things like:

"__wants to Congratulate Obama but would like remind everyone that McCain is still a Great American."

    and

"__is thinking that she's good with the new pres, but he better not screw it up :P."

I honestly have not seen one hateful status from any of my republican or conservative facebook friends.  There are a few obnoxious liberal statuses, though.  Too bad all of the supporters can't be as classy as the candidate (that goes for both sides).

  • You know I understand anger, I definitely had my share of anger in 2004. On the other hand, I think in this election it's a larger victory, there was time to mentally prepare for what everyone predicted would be the outcome (vs. 2004 where it was a tossup), and I think both candidates and their surrogates have been more fostering of a healing atmosphere.

But I say all that from the rosy side. I'm definitely angry about Prop 8.

  • Most of mine are, "Booking a plane for _____" or "Hopes everyone is happy with what they've done," "Is going to be mad opening her checkbook for someone else."

  • Yep, although I have heard some liberals say bitter and disrespectful things about GWB (not on this board, of course.)  It just amazes me to see people say, "he's not my President."  Well, who, pray tell, is your President, then?!
    image
  • yeah, a lot of people are making the checkbook comments...

    These are the latest:

    ____ alreadyboughta"dont blame me i voted Mccain".

____s laughing that anyone thinks the change that is coming is going to help the middle class.

____is choking on his own rage.

____ hopes our new President surrounds himself with people who actually know what they are doing!

    ___hopes America is right...

____ is working hard so that my money can go to those who don't want to work :).

    ____there goes the pendelum.

____gives your precious liberal poster boy 3 months until everyone comes to their senses... tops.

  • I saw "X thinks that America's going to hell in a hadbasket"... DH responded  "yeah because it was so great before".

Also "X thinks this country is screwed because we just elected a socialist." Ironically two weeks ago she posted this one "X is sick and tired of all the negative talk about the presidential canidates. Just pick someone and keep it to yourself :-). And....SHOW SOME RESPECT!!! Geesh.".... sore loser. DH called that one out too. He is relatively apethetic about politics but he hates a hypocrite.

  • To be honest, I was pretty bitter in 2004.  I went to class acting like WWIII was upon us.  If we'd lost last night, I would have cried myself to sleep, etc.  I'd probably try to be a bit less dramatic this year (after all I am supposed to be a real adult now, right?), but I'd be devastated.

And I would be mad at McCain voters.  I believe so much is at stake now.  I'd need to know why every single one of my Rep friends voted that way.  WHY?!

Now I'm trying to be a gracious winner and conciliatory.  I'm trying to remember that they voted what they believed, and their consciences led them down the path of McCain.  And I'm hoping we can all be friends again.

  • --- Congratulates the media on their win.

I really want to respond. ?But I'm not going to. ?College friend I don't stay in touch with. ?I don't want that to be my only comment to her.?

  • imagelyssbobiss:
Apparently someone a friend of mine knew on MySpace changed his status to say that "The uneducated people had spoken."  That's kind.

omg, that was the general concensus on NYU's campus 4 years ago.  It was super awkward for me as a top student at a prestigious university to constantly be inadvertently called stupid by my classmates.

  • One of my friend's FB status is "_____ watches everyone drink the Koolaid."  I kind of want to comment and say "I drank the Koolaid, and it's delicious!"

  • I've counted at least 10 people who are ready to leave the country. But I'm pretty sure I have the winner here "---- & ---?have decIded that sInce obama got presIdent... that were all gonna dIe!! nuclear war on amerIca here we go!!! damn muslIms!!!" and she commented on someone else's status with this "hes gonna go on "vacation" far far away then call his muslim friends and have them drop nuclear bombs on America and were all gonna die and if that doesnt happen the worlds gonna end in 2012 as soon as he gets out of office were SCREWED!!!!"

    ?

I am so glad I am not friends with this girl IRL.?

  • My favorite facebook status is:

blank thinks it unfair that Americans did all the hard work electing Barack Obama, but yet it is Kenyans that get a 2-day national holiday.

I only have one facebook friend with a "socialism" status. I guess I don't know many real Americans.

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Considering all the anti-Obama emails I would get my email box has been quiet today.

One of my friends called me last night crying over the election results and I told her at least she can have hope still in that she lives in a red state! That's what has been getting me through all this. I just look at my state's election results and I feel some comfort that McCain had a decisive victory in LA.
