Spark People

Hello ladies.

For those of us wanting to maintain/tone up/lose weight, what do you think about creating a Spark People group for ourselves. For those that haven't heard of it, Spark People is a website that has many nutrition tools. It has food journal (that you just type what you ate in and search for it, a lot of time it will be there already), a Recipe Calculator (you put in all of the ingredients and the amount of servings and it shows you the nutritional information for that recipe), workout log (you can have it set it for you or set one up yourself). Maybe go to their site and look around and let me know what you think. I always have the best of luck with weight loss when I use it (lost 25 lbs the summer after I got engaged using that site) because it keeps you accountable with food and workout minutes.

Re: Spark People

  • I'm signed up for it but have never used it.  I would love to get in the habit of using it to keep me on track.  So sign me up for the group!

  • For anyone interested, I already set up a group for us. I have it set to private, so others can't see what we say or do, etc, etc. If you already have a sparkpeople username, or are going to set up one, just let me know on here so I can send out an invitation to join the group. Can I say I strongly urge all of us to join in. It is such an amazing tool!

  • Just give me your usernames when you are ready.

Man, just getting back on the food logging today, I already didn't "snack" while I was at home for lunch...as I usually do grab something a little extra beyond my lean cuisine. It is incredible how much stuff stacks up against you! Haha! : )

I also love that it doesn't just do calories. I have mine set up to track calories, fat, saturated fat, carbs, sodium and fiber. Incredible how much planning it takes to get in all of the fiber you need, without overloading on sodium or carbs. Really makes you create a healthy balance of food.

BTW: Did I mention you can get the SparkPeople app on iPad, iPhone, Droid, etc. I don't have a blackberry to try see if they have one, but having it on my phone makes a big difference...especially when grabbing fast food or something!

  • Anyone that gives me usernames, let me know if you don't receive an invitation by tomorrow. What I think we should do is just eat somewhat how we normally would for the rest of the week, and log all of it. I think it would be crazy to know what everything we put in to our bodies tally up to. (Include beverages). After that, look at what they suggest for caloric intake, and cut out 100 calories a day until you get to the recommendation. The study stuff I got for my Group X training made it very clear to start by cutting only 100 calories each week from what you are eating a day now, otherwise you will, many times, hit a mental "deprivation" block.

  • Got the invite!  Great suggestion Danie about reducing our calories.

Where am I able to insert my own recipe and get the calories for it?
