Job related craziness

I have a counterpart in my program. She has municipal experience so she is good with that. I am good at administrative/coordinating/customer service kind of stuff. She handles the building code which is way way way above my head.

In all the turmoil of our office I have always said, I don't care where my program goes as long as A goes with me.

She resigned today.

Indifferent

They aren't filling her position.

Beer

So I have to do my job and hers.

Pizza

I'm asking for a raise.

  • Holy ... O_O

Yes, you need a raise. A big one.

  • Definitely ask for a raise!
  • I hope you catch on fast to the billing and get a decent raise.

  • A raise and a pony.

    And an assistant.

Good lord- that is madness lady!

  • This is not good. Since they are saving money on not having her position (and the associated overhead costs) then they darn well better give you that raise.  I hope you get it! Good luck!

I agree with Molly-- you definitely need a pony and an assistant.

And also some serious training! They HAVE to give you some kind of training on the codes, right?!? Right?  Indifferent

DEFINITELY a raise, for sure, though! Holy moly cow!

  • geez...I would say an assistant is definitely in order...that would be more cost-effective than them having to replace someone at your level...even someone to just work part-time...

although, not to make this about me, but we just hired a part-time assistant to give me more "free time" and she is driving me insane...I have no patience and I would sort of rather just work alone at this point...

    so, never mind...raise and pony

  • Eeek.  Yes, you need a nice, big raise if you have to take on another person's work!
  • Oh man...I hope you get a raise.

  • Ouch. Your raise should be equal to whatever her salary was. I hope you get the hang of all the new responsibilites quickly and that it doesn't end up being as bad as it sounds like it has potential to be.

sorry, that was a reading fail on my part. I was thinking billing code, like medical billing code, but somehow for the state. But no, it clearly says building.

  • I just went bug-eyed!  They're not filling the position???? Is it ALL being added to your plate?  I hope you have a major sit down and request a job description redo.  They better pair that up with a nice raise.

I went from a supervisor of one company to a supervisor of three companies and never got a raise.  It was assumed since I had been there for a decent amount of time I could handle the added responsibilities.  Of course, I could, but I still wished they had compensated me for it. At least I still had a job - which I couldn't say for the other two sups that were laid off.  :-(

  • holy moses!  I agree with Jess, they'd better sit down with you to re-write your job description so that your expectations are in writing.  And definitely a raise.  And a personal masseuse.
