Weekend Getaway Ideas?

DH is away for work again, so that makes 25 days in the last month in a half or so. I had a really bad weekend fighting with some of my girlfriends (about how they don't include me when they go places because I am married and they assume I wouldn't want to....I ran into them while they were out and it was super awkward). Annnnywho. He will be back on Friday and then will probably have to go away again next week.

DH wants to go away somewhere this weekend, just the two of us, to relax and enjoy each others company. I am about 40 minutes north of NYC, so anywhere within about 3 hours of NYC is fair game.

We don't want to spend a ton of $$, but definitely want to get away.

Any ideas of where we can escape to?

Re: Weekend Getaway Ideas?

  • You could come down to Lindsay and My neck of the woods (Lancaster, Pa).  :)  There is a lot of neat things to do and it probably wouldn't be too expensive!  I would recommend staying at Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square if it's not out of your price range. It's a FAB hotel. It's in the heart of the city...it's beautiful!  They have a gym, spa, pool and hot tub.  That's where we had our wedding reception.  There are outlets in the area, on Saturday Central Market (oldest farmers market in the US) is open until 2.  There are a bunch of really neat places to eat and drink.  Of course there is Amish things to see in the area.  If you want more info...let me know!  I'd be happy to give you a list of my favorite places to go!  :)

  • I second Kristi's idea of coming here! Another idea is to go to the Finger Lakes in NY....DH and I went there for our anniversary and had a fabulous time! We stayed at a B&B that was wonderful and wine tasted our little hearts out! We even found some breweries for DH.You could also go to the beach; Atlantic City, Ocean City (MD or NJ), Long Beach Island NJ (My all time favorite place ever!!)

  • DH and I love Spring Lake NJ you could also do to Delaware they have a few really cute beach towns. DH's cousins live in one and the name escapes me at the moment.
  • I just came back from Lake George and Albany, I'd recommend that area though I don't know how far it is from NYC. . .

  • Hudson, NY! It's about 3 hours north of the city. My SIL got married there at a b&b and it is like the most beautiful cutest little town ever.

How did I not know this? LBI is my favorite place ever. DH and I met at our beach house down there.

If you're looking at LBI, hotel recs are the Engleside, the Sea Shell (noisy/party environment), or Daddy-O's. There's some more affordable motels as well, and some nice B&Bs. DH and I stayed at a great B&B last summer but it closed.

Other possibilities are Cape May, NJ (love it - lots of nice hotels, restaurants and B&Bs and a great beach), or like PP said the Finger Lakes region. The tip of Long Island has some nice wineries. You can go to Mystic, CT or Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun if you're into gambling.  Not sure if it falls within 3 hours, but Newport, RI is awesome - that's where we got engaged :)

Or, you can join Allison and her friends in New Hope, PA!

It was wonderful (except for the tornado watches)!  I had never been up there :)

  • One more! Saratoga its SO cute. Tons of BandBs and if the race track is open thats a lot of fun. We did $2 bets each race which just gives you something to cheer for. I picked horses based on colors of uniforms of the Jockey and/or the name of the horse!

haha! I'm not going till the end of August though and Breanne sounds like she needs this getaway NOW!!

Laurie - I LOVE spring lake - that's where me and DH got engaged!  He proposed on the boardwalk :)  It's our favorite place and our go-to beach!  Maybe one day we can have the NJ girls get together for lunch at the beach??

Everyone has good suggestions!  Have fun planning!  I love getaways! :)

Lol too funny! Growing up we went to LBI for a week every summer...I have so many great memories there! My great aunt/uncle used to have a beach front house way back before my parents were even married....but it was destroyed when Agnes came through and they decided not to rebuild. DH and I are actually going down next weekend! We have a friend whose family has a house and they charge us next to nothing to stay there for the weekend. I can't wait!!
