Tablets

Does anyone own a tablet?  DH has been wanting one and I thought about getting him one for Father's Day but I don't know much about them.  I know about the iPad because I have the iPhone but I also know there are other ones out there.

If you have one, which one do you have? What do you like best about yours?  What do you like least?

(I'm not talking about a Kindle or Nook I'm talking about the PC type tablet)

TIA!

Re: Tablets

  • So you don't want an iPad?  Just a PC tablet?
  • I don't care either way which one it is but I was trying to see if someone had something other than an iPad to compare it too.

Electronics is always a very personal choice to me, so if he wants something specific, you may want to get that.  However, if he is just being vague, get him an Android tablet because it supports my job!  :)

All kidding aside, here are a few things to think about:

    iPad:
Pro - if you have an ipod, iphone it is easy to sync and go because you have all your media set up in itunes already.  Clean & Easy.
Con - Does not support flash. Drives my DH crazy.  You'd be suprised that most videos online use flash.  Restricted to certain service providers (if you want a data plan)

Android (I will not get specific to one tablet because I do not know enough):
Pro - If you already have an android phone, it should be fairly seamless to use as an addditional device.  It is an open platform, so you can use it with whatever provider/service you like. Supports flash.
Con - If you do not have an android phone, it will take some work to get all your media (mp3's, video's, books, etc) into the Google platform.  Once it is done, it is easy enough to maintain.

You may want to look into the Motorolla Xoom, or Samsung tablets if going the android route.  I've heard good things about them.

  • I found this website with reviews of the top 10 tablets.

  • Bill's big thing about being anti-android (sorry, Michelle) is that their app store is still small compared to Apples but also that their apps aren't very stable.  Anyone can put up an app but Apple makes the writers jump through some hoops first.

Michelle, that is the one thing that I hate about iPhones/iPads:  Flash.  I don't care why they're not playing nice with one another--just fix it!!!!
