Sometimes I wonder if I'm a bad mom....

.....because I'm not that much of a worrier.  Gals on my local board and even close friends talk about how sad and scared they were to put their babies in the crib for the first time (sometimes no earlier than 6 mos old), while P has been in his crib since about 2 months old.  Also, the first night was hard, but since then I haven't skipped a beat, thankfully he sleeps great in it.

Another point re: sleeping - he occasionally rolls to his belly and will sleep a long time that way.  I know for the SIDS risk, back is best, but I feel like if he's sleeping fine that way, why should I disturb him?

I don't know, maybe this is stemming from a lot of posts on my local that make me wonder, hmm....should I be concerned about that too?  I just feel like worrying does no good, there is only so much you can control, kwim?

Re: Sometimes I wonder if I'm a bad mom....

  • I've heard that once a baby can roll, it is totally fine to sleep on their belly.  Plus just think, we all slept on our bellies and are here and fine.

Robert has been in his crib since 4 weeks.  I missed him, but was never worried about moving him.  I like having our bedroom for just DH & I and him having his place and room.

Funny you post this because I just got off the phone with my sister and we were talking about parents who worry a lot.  Our other sister takes her kids to the pedi for EVERYTHING.  R had his first diaper rash associated with teething.  At first, it was really bad but cleared up and looked better every single time I changed him.  My sister saw it and was like "You should probably take him to the pedi"  It now is completely cleared up and fine.  It didn't even seem to bother him after day 1.

Another incident was he got a little soap in his eye during his bath and got his eye a little red.  My sister stopped by about 10 minutes later and was like "Are you going to take him to the pedi!?!"  I was said no its from a little soap.  The red was gone within the hour.

I think some parents are just a bit more uptight than others.  Like you said worrying does no good.  I just go with my gut and it seems like that is what you do too.  Don't let other peoples insecurities get to you!

  • I'm like that, too. I have to actually make a conscious effort to check on him when he's sleeping. I try to look in on him before I go to bed at night (mostly to get his legs unstuck from between the crib bars before he wakes up and realizes he's stuck), but don't always remember.

  • I think it's good not to worry so much! Healthier for you, Scott and Parker.
  • Ditto everyone else. On the subject of worrying, this blog post is hilarious(by the way, this blogger is amazing, funny, and so easy to relate to on all things motherhood).

  • I started worrying in th beginning but now I'm much more laid back! It's not good to worry. Youre doing just fine.

  • Some people just worry too much. I wish that we had put Will in his bed earlier.  It was selfish on our parts that we waited.  It was easier for me to get more sleep if he was in the bed with us.

We've received comments before on things such as letting the dogs in the babies room (gasp).  We are pretty laid back parents.
