photo "editing" question
I'm looking into birth announcements, but they're more expensive than I thought they'd be.
One of the moms on the April 2011 board said she used Publisher to create the layout, then just printed the announcements as a 4X6" print on Shutterfly - which made them very reasonably priced.
I looked up Publisher, and it's a $140 program! Are there free alternatives I can download? Any other ideas to help this broke momma save some cash, but still tell the world my LO is here (6 weeks later...) ?
Re: photo "editing" question
What if you bought a designed template on etsy or ebay (I think you can get that reasonably) then you do your own printing on Shutterfly etc. For example:

I downloaded picasa free from google. you can write on the picture. and then i selected a border from snapfish when i printed it for christmas cards. they came out great, i think.
i hope this link works:

We order from her: http://www.etsy.com/shop/lukecommasara?ref=seller_info
the boys announcements (at 4 months old... so don't worry about 6 weeks! lol) and Christmas cards for the past 2 years and LOVE them... you pay her like $15 for the design and she customizes it for you then you can print them however you want... the announcements we did in shutterfly but the christmas cards we buy the card stock and print them on our home computer.
Seeing adorable newborn pics like these makes me a bit sad that my "little" man has never been that little - he's pushing 11 pounds already, and isn't even 6 weeks yet!
I knew I could count on you all!! I love the suggestions and offers for help. Colby just finally had his "newborn" pics taken yesterday, and I'm anticipating a long wait for the photos - the photographer offered to do them for free, since she's building her professional portfolio and hasn't shot a baby yet. She also took several weeks to finish all the editing and burn a CD of my belly pictures, but I paid next to nothing for those. So, I don't even have pictures to play around with yet
