If you could start your own business..

What would you do?  Pretend you had the start-up costs. I have 3.

1) A non-profit company that focused on teaching healthy relationships, preventing dating violence, and sex ed.  Would have groups and do education in schools, group homes, etc.  A male mentoring component would be a part of it.

2) An inn/bed and breakfast with a fabulous restaurant. We would like to renovate an old house in the mountains.  DH  would be the chef. I would make desserts and handle reservations.  Also be the activities director.

3 )A farm-to table restaurant using all local ingredients.   open for breakfast and lunch so DH would be home at night. would offer freezable family meals to take home. this would be doable in our area.

Re: If you could start your own business..

  • 1.) A non-profit musical theatre program. We would teach classes throughout the week - music, vocals, dance, acting, set design, costume design, makeup artistry, front-of-house operations (advertising, ticket sales, hospitality type things), etc. throughout the season and then at the end of the season we would all come together to put on a big show to showcase all the kid's talents and to raise funds for the next year.

2.) a bakery! what would be better than making people happy with delicious treats?

  • 1) A modern style bakery.

    2) A legal services group for kids seeking emancipation, college support and other alternative avenues under which they may face discrimination.

  • 1.) A scrapbooking business. I would love to have all the paper, products, and tools I could cram into my shop. I would really like to offer classes for all ages and at all times during the day so no matter what schedule you have, you could come and enjoy.

  • 1- my dad wants to open a health food store/restaurant and I would love nothing more than to open one for him and help him run it.

2- a delicious bakery! This seems to be a popular niner idea- let's all pitch in and get one going. :)

  • 1. Wedding Planning.

    2. Non-profit helping HS kids do college research and helping them apply to schools, finding scholarships, etc. I know that's what their parents and guidance counselors are for - but some kids slip through the cracks and don't really have someone to push them towards their goals or feel like they don't have anyone cheering them on to succeed.

    3. a B&B either down the cape or in the Cooperstown, NY area.

  • A no-kill, non-profit animal rescue shelter. Even better if i'm also offered unlimited space. I wish I could take in every single stray that I see, but obviously that's not a true possibility.
  • 1. A photography studio. With full lighting and backdrop capability. Plus...a traditional dark room, oh what I'd do for a darkroom.

    2. A bakery called "Specially Sweet". Everything we would make would be for special dietary needs. Some things would egg free, dairy free, gluten free, sugar free, or a combination of all of those.  Sadly, aside from start-up money, I would need to know hot to bake first...so this one is almost definitely not going to happen, lol.

  • 1) Animal Rescue

    2) Pizza Shop

    3) Interior decorating business although I'm not sure how I'd do if the clients didn't agree with my choices/tastes

  • A sort of "day care"service for the elderly. Not the type of place you'd drop them off or anything, but some place where they'd be assigned a rep that got along with them who would check in and see if they needed anything, help w/ home care, chores, laundry, etc., drove them places, and kept them company. I love the elderly, and it makes me sad to think of them alone all day.

I really like the restaurant "First Watch", but their hrs are terrible, so I'd want to open a similar style little cafe that only served breakfast/lunch/brunch foods but was open 24/7. OH and it serves booze, like mimosas.

  • 1. Wedding Planning

    2. Making cards/paper stuff

    3. A dessert place, serves frozen yogurt that you serve yourself and put your own toppings (I saw this at the frozen yogurt place across from the National Zoo and it's a great idea!) and pastries

I think #3 would really require the money but #1 & 2 are just me being lazy.

    ETA:

    4. A defense contracting company - I work in the defense industry so this wouldn't be much of a stretch and it's something Patrick and I have thought about but it really wouldn't be my dream.

    5. Web site - I have an idea for the site but unfortunately lack the programming skills to implement.

    2. H wants to eventually open his own CPA office so I would work with him in the office.
