So yea, I just need to boast a little

One and a half weeks ago my principal asked me to pick 8 female students to take to the White House for an event with the Office of the First Lady. The state dinner for the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is being held this evening and Michelle Obama hosted an event for young women to talk to them about what is involved in hosting a state dinner and the opportunities for women in politics today. Michelle and Brooke Anderson, Chief of Staff for the National Security Council, spoke to a group of only 25 students in the state dining room, 8 of which were my kids! The White House gives such little information about events that we really had NO idea what to expect. I though at least 100 kids would be there. Well, they all got to sit at one of 3 ten top tables that were completely decorated for the state dinner. Michelle had a very real conversation with them... she answered all of their questions, was soo down to earth, and was absolutely hilarious. They also served the students apple struedel, which is what is on the menu for tonight's state dinner. At first myself and my teacher friend who also attended as a chaperone, were told we had to stay in a waiting room and couldn't see the event, but they ended up letting us stand with the press and watch. Michelle was unbelievably awesome and down to earth and I am so happy I was able to take this group of remarkable students to this event. Definitely a highlight for me personally, and a highlight as a teacher to see my kids' reaction to the event today. Yay!
