There is a temporary admin assistant in the cube outside of my office for the next month.  She is an older lady who talks really loudly on the phone and is currently sighing loudly at a rate of approximately once every three minutes.  WHAT could be going on that is so dramatic and frustrating for her?  I say this as someone who sighs unconsciously a lot.

Has anyone ever bought a magazine subscription through Amazon?  I usually just buy subscriptions straight from the magazine because I don't trust third parties to keep my info private, but I do trust Amazon with my info otherwise, so I don't know.

I think I might go to Target after work today just to hang out in the AC.

I have been buying iced coffee in the morning because it's too hot in my office to drink my usual hot tea.  $$$ but I can't go without my caffeine and I don't want to carry a beverage from home for my whole commute.

Tomato cages are really ugly.  Our vegetable garden was so cute and now it looks like aliens are trying to abduct our tomato plants.  These tomatoes had better be absolutely delicious.

Re: randoms

  • I cannot handle people who talk loudly on the phone. I used to share an office with a LOUDassed girl. She would get so shrill on the phone.

I sigh a lot. Part of it is because I think I forget to breathe then when I realize I'm half blue in the face, I gasp and sigh over and over. LOL.

My friend bought me a magazine subscription through amazon for my birthday. No issues from what I know!

I used to go to S&S to hang in the a/c on those hot, hot summer days in Boston. Living without AC suuucks.

  • I feel your pain on the assistant.  The crazy one who sits outside my office that I've posted about before is on vacation.  It's sooooo nice when she's not here!

I think you're fine to order through Amazon.  I think I bought my Real Simple or some other subscription through there once.  I almost always buy magazine subscriptions through a third party because there are usually better deals.

My mom used to take us to hang out at the mall for A/C when we were kids.

Someday I'll start a container garden.  Really.  I will.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We have a crazy assistant here, too, who sits right outside my office.  She's a nutbag.  One day, one of the facilities guys walked by her to check something and said, "hey (receptionist), how's it going?"  She said, (and I swear on everything that this is verbatim,) "I thought I killed my neighbors cat the other day, but it turns out he's ok."  She also goes to Burning Man every year, and spent an infinity telling the head of our dept. about it one day.  So now I refer to her as "Burning Woman" when I email my husband to complain about her.

So yeah. I pray for her to be sick some days.

I would never be able to hang out at Target to soak up the a/c, because I don't think it's possible for me to walk out of there without dropping a hundred bucks. And most of the time, I don't even know on what.

  • I have not bought a magazine subscription through Amazon, but I have through Barnes and Nobles.  Everything turned out just fine.

I need to buy an engagement card for a friend so I will probably just stand there and read every greeting card they have, and walk out with $100 worth of cards.  I went out at lunch and it wasn't actually that hot out, so my house might be bearable tonight with some fans going.  We'll see.

Anyone else have anything random to share?  I've got the mid-afternoon drowsiness going strong.  I think I might have to make a coffee.

  • I'm leaving for another trip to AZ soon to visit with MIL, who just finished her last round of chemo.  So, yeah, I'm leaving the hot and sticky weather here for the super hot but dry weather there.  I'm tempted to try cracking an egg on the sidewalk out there to see if it'll really cook Big Smile

Oh, and MIL gets cold easily (one of the reasons she moved to AZ) so she rarely turns on her A/C and when she does it's never below 82.  We'll have to try to make do with her ceiling fans.  The highs when we're there range from 99-103 degrees.  Joy.

  • Ugh, Rock that's awful.  I remember going to visit my aunt in Florida one summer, and my uncle was emphatically anti-a/c, so they just had ceiling fans. It was 90 something degrees out one night and she was making a full dinner. Like roasting a chicken full dinner.  I've never seen someone sweat so much in my life.

I just sat here staring at the calendar trying to remember if it's Wednesday or Tuesday.  Because I am that out of it right now.

  • I work with a woman who is a habitual liar (she sits across from me).  The other day, her phone rings, she looks at the #, puts her hand on the phone, starts panting, and then answers the phone pretending to be all out of breath.  "Hello?  I almost missed your call, I had to run to my desk"  What the hell, why would you actually LIE about something like that!  She also is always talking about how she is going to file for bankruptcy, but she eats out at DD every morning, and goes out for lunch every day.  She also does some major shopping a lot (I work in DT Crossing).  Crazy!

I have never actually had a magazine subscription!

I wish I liked coffee.  I love the smell, but can't stomach the taste.  I drink diet coke for breakfast instead (I know...it's kinds gross, but it tastes so good!)

I wish I had a yard to put a garden in!
