Need opinions- re: infant sleep issue

Okay so I posted yesterday about B sleeping on his tummy now. Well not only does that worry me but it is causing some major sleep problems over here. Last night he was up every hour because he would roll to his tummy and then get upset. Each time I tried patting his back and reassuring him but he would get so worked up that I would end up having to rock him back asleep. I would put him down on his back, he would flip, maybe sleep for 30 minutes and the whole thing would start all over. Needless to say, I am absolutely exhausted today. The same thing is happening with naps. Plus, he used to let me rock him to sleep but now squirms and fusses and fights it.

So what do I do? Keep rocking him back to sleep? Let him cry it out? (For the record I am not a CIO gal and definitely think he is young for it but he cries in my arms too so I am wondering if I just need to help him learn to self sooth so he doesnt freak out each time he wakes on his tummy?) He obviously WANTS to be on his tummy because he immediately rolls there and he can totally roll from tummy to back too but it seems like he just can't figure that out when he is first waking.

I feel like a zombie today on so little sleep and am honestly panicking a little at the thought of ANOTHER bad sleeper. He was sleeping 7-5 or 6 up until last week so I am so sad :( Thoughts? Advice?

Re: Need opinions- re: infant sleep issue

  • What about starting him out on his tummy? If he wants to be there why start him that way?

  • I'm usually not a proponent of these, but how about a sleep positioner?  Although he might actually wake, frustrated that he can't get to his tummy.

Maybe work on rolling tummy to back during the day??  That's the hard one.   :)

You poor dear.  :(   I don't miss those days even a little bit.

  • Thanks for the advice girls :) Victoria- we have tried starting him off on his tummy but no luck. He just gets mad :) MrsReem we will look into a sleep positioner for sure. I am a little leery just because they are a SIDs risk but it may be worth a try. This too shall pass right? :)

  • I'm not a mom yet...but would he sleep in a swing or bouncy seat? (at least during nap time) Maybe once he gets some restful sleep he'll calm down.
