Laptops - Lenovo vs. Dell?

Hey ladies - DH and I desperately need to replace our home laptop, but we are low on funds so we're going to go through my company's discount program (yay!)  I get good employee discounts for Lenovo and Dell, but I don't really know how they compare from a user perspective.  I've had both brands as work laptops before and thought they were fine...but I would love some input if you've had great or bad experiences with specific models of either.  Thanks!!

Re: Laptops - Lenovo vs. Dell?

  • I've had hard drives fail on 2 Dell laptops, which is a good way to learn to back up everything, but a difficult lesson to learn in the middle of finals one semester while I was in law school.  One was a Latitude and the other was an Inspiron.  I'll never buy a Dell again because of this.

You may want to check out Toshiba too, they're really reasonable and mine is 3 years old and showing no signs of slowing down.

  • Personally - neither.  We used to use Lenovo at work but all of them kept crashing for no reason.  They were so slow and didn't work well.  Last year we switched to Dell Insperion and while they've been better not the best.

Some of us who are more senior now have the business model for HP and I LOVE it!!  Not sure the model or the price  but they all have the built in web cams, and touch finger security.

  • IBM/Lenovo has the best laptops out there! I got my Lenovo laptop in 2003, still running!

"They say with time it gets better. Not true. With time you only get used to it."
  • I've had all 3 (DH had a Dell, I had an HP, and we used Lenovo at work).

I think they are honestly all about the same. It's hit or miss... my HP was trash after 18 months, but others love theirs. DH's first Dell lasted 5 years, but his 2nd one is already crap after a little over a year. We had no problem with our Lenovos at work, but someone above said theirs crashed all the time.

So honestly, I think there isn't a huge difference between Dell/Lenovo (or even HP)...
