Cleaning a non-self-cleaning oven

So I cooked something the other day that dripped big time, making a mess in the bottom of my oven. I just went to preheat my oven and came back to a kitchen full of smoke from whatever is scorched to the bottom.

It is not a self-cleaning oven. What can I clean the mess up with?

I used to use the easy off pads when I had non self cleaning oven. Even though I now have a self cleaning electic oven, I put a piece of heavy duty foil on the botton of the oven to catch any real messy drips.

I've used the Easy Off spray. It works pretty well buy you have to rinse it REALLY well or you'll have white streaks in your oven. I just got a self cleaning oven & I've also lined it with foil. I'll eventually get one of those oven liners, but I'm not ready to drop the money on it just yet. There are too many other things I want that are way more exciting :-)

I've used simple green before and had pretty good results. You can buy it from Home Depot. Lowes, Target, or Advanced Auto Parts. Works well as a cleaner for other areas of the house as well.

Good ol' oven cleaner, a pair of rubber gloves, and a scouring sponge. Open all the windows.
