Prop 8 is ruining my day

What the hell is wrong with 52% of Californians?!

I just went on Facebook, and my gay friend, who just moved to the state in August, updated his status to read: {friend} is a second class citizen in califuckingfornia....should I wear an arm band or patch?

It's making me really sad.

Re: Prop 8 is ruining my day

  • Yeah, I'm pretty pissy about it, too. I need some alcohol or yarn to take the edge off. Unfortunately, I have neither.

  • Yeah, it's disgusting. I really thought it was going down, and I'm just so deflated by the whole thing.

  • I'm telling you. Never put your absolute faith in the voters of CA to do the right thing. We have a long history of mean streaks and nastiness at the polls. CA voters are a very angry and bitter crowd at times. To be honest, I'm not surprised by this outcome. Nonetheless, it still stings.
  • Would have been nice to enjoy the Obama victory wouldn't it?

My first boyfriend (I was his last girlfriend ;) wants to move to Canada, he's disgusted with humanity.

My mom's friend who got married Saturday could have his marriage annulled. Annulled. I cannot imagine waking up this morning and that being a possibility.

I really have to hope the courts can do something about this.

Our VP of product mgmt said they positioned it wrong, the No campaign should have lead with a "don't put discrimination in the constitution" message the whole way. I told him he should be their marketing director next time.

  • Me too.  I am heartbroken and sad and disgusted.
  • I am really sad about this.

  • I am bummed about it, too. I really think this issue needs to be addressed on a national level; the state efforts are dishearteningly slow and seem like one step forward, two steps back. It's a disgrace for this country to tolerate discrimination against gay people.
  • ::hmph:: I'm deflated, too and wondering how is it that the state constitution be ammended with a simple majority?
  • according to some reports I read, the high AA and Latino turnout is what caused it to pass :(
  • It really is so incredibly upsetting.  Oregon had a similar measure a few years back (measure 34), that passed, after our state started legally marrying gays.  It was incredibly painful and I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain.
  • Yeah, its horrible. I really havent been able to be really happy about the OBama win becuase of this. I am just broken hearted.

I saw a picture of a man wearing a No on 8 shirt bawling and that did it. He was just told he wasn't a first class citizen and that he didnt have the same rights that I do, and it killed me. he literally had to sit there and watch other people vote his rights away. How absolutely disguisting.

If the people already married were to have their marriages anulled by this I would be completely and totally disalusioned with this country, and especially this state.

  • One of my FB friends has a similar status message... but he lives in MN. I feel like I should respond, but I have no idea what to say.

This is truly appalling and needs to be dealt with. The Santa Clara County BART measure required 2/3 vote, but we can take away rights from our citizens with 50%? FAIL

No kidding. It needs to be set up in a way that requires at least 2/3 of the vote, none of this 50% crap.

  • It's really starting to sink and and piss me off. I mean what's next? Is my interracial marriage threatened now? Assholes. Seriously. I hate everyone who voted yes. Meh. And I don't care if I sound like a ***. I am really angry about this outcome.

I know.  There are no words.

I don't understand why civil rights are a ballot issue.  It's so frightening.

  • LMW, you're not a b1tch for believing in civil rights over bigotry.

They are in the wrong, not you.
