Moving to Dallas, need advice!

DH and I live in Austin and we'll be moving to Dallas in August.  DH will be working in Carrollton.  We have three kids and are looking to move to an area that is family friendly, has good schools, and has trees.  Areas we are looking at are Highland Village, Flower Mound, and Coppell.  What do you think of these areas?  How is the commute into Carrollton?  Any other recommendations for places that we should look at that has a reasonable commute into Carrollton?  Also, if you have any realtor recommendations, please let me know.  TIA!

  • I grew up in the Highland Village/Flower Mound/Lewisville area and went through all of my schooling within that district. It's a great area to be in. The shopping in Highland Village is amazing. Housing in Flower Mound/Highland Village for a nice neighborhood is relatively pricey unless you're willing to buy an older home, just a warning.

Coppell is close to where I live now. They have the highest property taxes in the metroplex, but it's a nice area. It is more central to major highways and roads than Highland Village.

  • Have you considered looking at Carrollton for a home too? That's a really nice area too.
  • Coppell's schools are amazing.  They have great athletic, fine arts and academic programs.  They are a one high school town.

Flower Mound and Highland Village are great too.  I think most go to one of two high schools and both have great athletic and fine arts programs.  I don't know too much about the academics of their district (they're part of Lewisville ISD).

    Welcome to the Dallas Area!

MHS in Flower Mound is where I went to school, and there's also FMHS. Both are good schools.

  • The commute from any of the areas you mentioned would be pretty easy.

I will second Brianna on considering Carrollton as well.   We live in West Carrollton, very close to Lewisville and it is a very nice area.  Stay on the Denton County side of the city and you will absolutely get a wonderful community with great schools.

  • Yay for another Austinite!! I don't have a lot of recs, as we have been in the area for 9 months only! If you never lived in the metroplex, it's a lot different than Austin! Good luck with your move.  We greatly miss Austin but the job prospect is a lot better here, the pay is higher, housing prices are a tad better. I think you will like it here.

  • Realtor: Terri McCoy of Keller Williams.  Their office is in Plano.
