Would you go back to school?

If you could go back to school, would you? What would you want to go for?

Re: Would you go back to school?

  • Not at this point in my life.  I know that you are never too old to go back, but I am too old. Stick out tongue

  • If I could afford to go full time and not have to work - hellz yes I would go back.  I'd like to go into the medical field - not a doctor or nurse but maybe sales or a tech or something.

  • Yes maybe eventually I would.  I would be interested in maybe Ultrasound tech.  I have my teaching degree and will probably never use it.  I hate that I put all of that effort, time, and money into it but I really just dont like teaching or the idea of teaching other people's kids. Especially in this economy where they are laying off teachers left and right.

  • Yes, and I plan too... Probably within the next two/three years.  It would be for a Masters Degree.  I am really thinking I want to get a Masters in Survey Methodology with a a focus on Statistics.  It would allow me to advance my career!

  • I'm so done with school, especially since I have yet to work in the field that I have gone to school for.

  • For a whole new field/degree?  No

For a higher degree then I what I already have: No.  I've thought about going to get my masters, but I just don't think I could do it. I had 5 years of college & that was enough for me.

  • Well, my undergrad took 7 years to get (I had no idea what I wanted to do and changed schools three times) and I hated every minute of it.  Not so much the degree (B.S. in Chemistry) but just the work and the time.  I swore I'd never go back.

Well last fall I started my Masters.  Work is paying for it and I don't plan on having kids any time soon so I figured I might as well.  I'm getting my Masters in Engineering Management.  I decided if I was going to go back, it wasn't going to be for another technical degree.  I should be done in Dec 2012 so, not too bad.

It doesn't guarantee me a promotion or anything, but to get promoted here, you almost HAVE to be an engineer, so the Engineering Management degree should help me with that in the future.

  • No, I'm just not super motivated when it comes to school.  I got my bachelor's degree and graduated with a good gpa, but beyond that I'd just rather work.  I'm not particularly career driven.  I could have gotten a free masters degree from where I work, but I just couldn't get excited about writing papers, research project, etc.

  • No, not right now.  DH has always said that if I wanted to go back to get another degree that he'd be 100% supportive of it, just my decision.  Of course right now it'd be hard w/him not being at home to watch the kids if I did take classes probably at night.

Not really sure what I'd want to do.  I don't think I'd go back to radio, but maybe I would or try tv, I'll see how I feel when the time comes when I decide to work again.  I've always wanted to do something in the sports field since I've done a bunch of different things at WMU from writing, to PA announcing, having my own sports show, etc. but I don't know if I want to do that again.

Maybe something different, I love to organize, so I thought maybe become a Professional Organizer.  I organize our house & garage, why not do it for others & make money.  Also I love to bake & am staring to cook more homemade, so something along those lines too.  We shall see...

  • if i could go back in time and do things differently i might but as far as going back to school at this point in my life i wouldn't do it.

  • I always said I wanted to go back, but I have no desire to go back.  Maybe in the future...much distant future, and it would be in HR.

  • I don't want to change fields or anything but I have room for advancement in my current position.  I feel sometimes maybe a second masters degree would be beneficial.  I would get a masters in taxation if I went back but I highly doubt that would ever happen.

  • Yes, if I had the time to go back I would, but right now I don't want to miss anytime with dd.

OMG you totally should.  What an achievement that would be! I know it's expensive though :(

  • I'm not really interested in going back to school in my current field (biology).  My boss keeps saying that he thinks I would be really good at it, but I just can't set my life aside for up to 7 years getting a PhD.

Also, with the LO on the way, I don't think I'd have time to do anything else.  If I were able to SAH, I might decide to take some finance classes, but there's no way I feel like I could work, be a mom, and go to school.

  • NO!! I just finished my MBA last April and have no desire to go back for anything.

  • I'm going back for my master's. I have no desire to change careers but I'd like the higher education. I am planning on going for nutrition or for something general like biology/chemistry. I need a few pre-req classes either way, so I am researching programs that will allow me to go to school at night and still work full time.
  • I'm currently enrolled right now. I am going for Computer Graphics and Web Design.

I know. DH tells me that all the time too. Dr. Firewife. :) HAHA

But really though, there's one requirement I can't get waived ... I'd have to teach at least 1 class a semester ... and I work during the day, so I couldn't do that part. I might research transferring to a different university that would waive the teaching requirement. I haven't taken a class since 2007 though, so who knows. Maybe someday.

  • I currently am working on my Masters in Finance and at times I wonder why since I like my job (most days).

  • Nope.  Anything higher than a college degree won't do anything for my job, no promotion and no extra money.  If I did something for fun, it would be something like fashion design, just so I can learn how to make something other than a blanket or pillowcase...
  • I am looking into going back to school right now. I am looking to be a registered dietitian and there are a few programs that I have been looking into. I am leaning towards getting a Master's of Public Health in Human Nutrition.

I really would like the higher education and being a RD will help with my career.

I would and in fact I am thinking about it.  My first degree didn't work out as well as I had hoped.  I don't know what I would want to go for though, which is what is stopping me for the time being.  I don't want to spend money and idle time and money when I have no idea what I want to do (other then what I originally went to school for).

  • Going back to school can be really beneficial career-wise, and instills a certain sense of pride in yourself. With all the great distance learning programs offered by accredited, highly rated colleges, you wouldn?t even have to compromise on your time with your family. Personally, unless your passion lies somewhere else, I think the most promising degrees right now are in the fields of business and healthcare.
