Labor Story (warning it's long)

Everybody loves a labor story.... I know I do ...I had no idea what to expect and loved reading labor stories before going into labor myself.

So here it goes ..it's 4:43 am and baby Zachariah is sleeping...

After not dialating past a 2 my OB decided it was time to induce at being 10 days overdue.  We head to the hospital for our 6am induction and are sent to OB Triage to get things started.  We were told we would get a room shortly and next thing we knew our favorite OB walks into our room about 2 hours later.  She says well guys I don't know how to say this but there are no rooms.  I thought she was kidding at first.  She said I can send you home and have you come back the next day or you can walk around have some breakfast and we can see if a room opens up.  I felt bad there were women in active labor and they didn't have a room.  I was fine with going home and coming back the next day but wanted to make sure we weren't waiting too long and the baby was OK.  My OB ordered a bedside ultrasound to check on his amniotic fluid level only to find out it was borderline and we had to have the baby within the next day no matter what.  Hubby and I decided to go ahead get some breakfast and walk around.  We then found a really nice spot to relax and just talk  at the "Serenity Garden" I think it's called.

A few hours later we got a call on hubby's cell phone saying to hurry back they have a room for us.  This is when I got nervous ...it finally set in ...this is it ....I was relaxed before and now all of a sudden a ball of nerves took over me.  We get to the room and they immediately hook me up on Pitocin and break my water.  The contractions started coming very hard around 7pm and they wanted me to hold off on an epidural before it got unbearable.  Well around 2am I just couldn't take it anymore and got my epidural.  I never got past 4cm and my contractions were never adequate enough.  Baby Zachey was just way too comfy in there.  At around 8am my OB decided to give me one more hour to see what would happen but at this point she was thinking the only way to get him out would be a C Section.  I told her I was fine with waiting another hour but would be afraid I would be too exhausted to push and would I really go from a 4 to a 10 in an hour?  Before we knew it about an half hour later my OB said are you ready ....we have a spot open....let's get this baby out and celebrate his birthday.  We told her yes we were ready let's do it.  I warned her that anethesia makes me very sick.  She said no problem we will give you medication to try to prevent that.  Within minutes I was wheeled in, hubby was dressed in his scrub outfit, and it was time.  Before I knew it my OB was asking me if I felt that ...I said no....she goes great we just did the incision ...I was like no way....wow....my hubby was then allowed to come into the c section room and the process began ....within minutes I got sick ....and sick again ....and well about 40 times  yah I know not fun at all ......they didn't know what to do ..I just couldn't stop getting sick .....what seemed like forever they said are you ready to meet your baby boy ....I looked at my husband and we both said yes ...we looked up and there he was in the mirror ....he had the cutest cry ever and was absolutely adorable.....my husband and I just looked at eachother and started crying.....the happiest time of our life.... they took him away to get him checked out and started to close me up.  They finally brought him to us and I will never forget looking at our little Zachey for the first time in my husbands arms.  Everything came so natural to him and he was just loving on him while I continued to be sick and sick again.  I couldn't stop being sick so they had a hard time with closing me up and because my uterus was so worn out it was a challenge.  What seemed like forever they closed me up and wheeled me off to recovery with hubby and baby .....again I got sick......I felt so sick and out of it ...I just looked up at my husband and said ...am I going to live?  He was like yes of course love .....you just had a rough C-section but you will be ok.

We went to recovery for an hour and both grandparents finally got to meet their first grandchild on both sides of our family.  They fell in love with him immediately!  We were then sent to a beautiful room in postpartum.  My OB came in to check on me.  She said I lost a lot of blood more than the typical C Section patient and had to do blood work ASAP.  My results came back critical and we were sent back to Labor and Delivery where I could be monitored closely.  That same day I ended up having two blood transfusions and a hematoma which they were worried they might have to send me back into surgery.  We prayed all night long that I wouldn't have to go back into surgery.  Thankfully I ended up being ok enough not to go back into surgery but to be monitored for 24 hours.  It was a very scary 24 hours for us.  Baby Zachey was in absolute perfect health and I was hanging on by a thread.  We made it through though and after being poked a total of 10 more times, two transfusions, ultrasounds, etc. I was finally told I was in stable condition and we would get to go back to postpartum and enjoy our little one.  My body is black and blue from my ribcage down to my thighs and I am still having a rough time getting around with some weakness due to the blood loss BUT it is all worth it and more and I would go through it all again for the end result our beautiful son!

I love being a Mommy so much and my hubby is such an amazing Dad! =)
