Is this a long shot?

Things at my job are bad. I will probably post that later in a separate post.

I currently work in the legal field. My job history is as a paralegal/legal secretary for the past 8 years. I have been working retail part-time for about ten years. There is an administrative assistant job with the following job skills required. The ony skill I lack is the Powerpoint/Excel.

My main question is about my resume. My retail experience has been in this particular mall. It is a huge outlet mall. Should I add my retail experience to this particular resume? My current boss happens to be related to someone in the home office and I may or may not add her as a reference. My last retail job there (the store closed) my boss also works there in the mall still as well.

Would I be wasting my time?

It is fine to have the retail experience on your resume somewhere but it isn't going to be a primary focus (it might go under "other work")

However based on the qualifications I think your lack of excel and power point knowledge is going to be the more serious issue. Have you not used them at all in your current position? I find it odd that you'd know access and not excel. I'd do some of the on-line tutorials to get a better handle on it.

  • In my opinion, working retail is always a plus because you're someone who's had a lot of experience working with the public, different types of people. in sales and have customer service experience. All bonuses for me.

I agree with the other poster, take some Excel tutorials. I think Microsoft Office has them on their website.
