Tried & True Sangria Recipes
We're having a cookout/housewarming party July 4th weekend (Saturday, b/c DH and all his co-workers have to work on the 4th). One thing I know I want to make is sangria. I know some of y'all have made it before, so please post your favorite recipes. I personally prefer red sangria (which is weird, because I prefer white wine, but anyway. . .). I also have seen a lot of recipes with rum, and I'd prefer something else, because I'm not really a rum fan, but then again, maybe I've been drinking it in sangria all this time and didn't realize it.
Re: Tried & True Sangria Recipes
My Food Blog
my go to recipe: Sangria (which uses brandy)
i've been on a bourbon kick and have been using 1/2 cup bourbon instead of the brandy and vanilla sugar instead of simple syrup. i've also used blackberry vodka (again, cutting to 1/2 cup/batch) and added frozen blackberries just before serving.
This is Jaleo's. So freaking good. I too don't care for red wine, but like red sangria. Esp. this one. It isn't vodka-y either, so don't worry if you aren't a vodka fan. You really can pinpoint any ingredients since they meld together sooooo nicely.
9 liters Red Wine
24 oz. Orange Juice
32 oz. 7up
8 oz. Rose's lime juice
24 oz. sugar
8 oz. vodka
8 oz. brandy
2 cinnamon sticks
Diced pears and granny smith apples
Mix all items together except fruit. The sangria can be stored up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Add fruit approx. 1 hour prior to serving.
Makes 5 gallons.
I make a lot of different sangria recipes. Here are a few:
Traditional Red Sangria
*Cheap red wine - I usually buy the jug type and get either "sangria" or cabernet savignon
*Tequila - enough to almost cover fruit (maybe a cup)
*Brandy - enough to finish covering the fruit (maybe a 1/2 cup)
*1 each - apple, orange, lemon, lime chopped into bite size pieces
*Sugar to taste - start with 3/4 cup (but I like it sweeter)
*Sprite - 1 can
Mix everything except sugar and Sprite the day before. Make sure to squeeze the juice out of all of the citrus fruits before throwing them in. Just before serving add the sugar and Sprite. You can also add water, but I feel like it waters it down so usually just let guests add it to their cup.
For white - I do the same but substitute rum for tequila and orange juice for Sprite. I use a Sav Blanc or something similar. NOT Chardonnay. Rieslings tend to be too sweet.
For a rose sangria
*Jug o' Chablis or Rose
*Rum (or vodka or a flavored rum/vodka like raspberry) enough to almost cover fruit
*Brandy - to finish covering the fruit
*Fresh or frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries)
*Kool-Aid or Crystal Light - a "red" flavor (fruit punch, cherry, strawberry, etc.)
*Sugar
*Sprite - 1 can
Make the Kool Aid/Crystal Light first in a cardboard milk or OJ carton. Add half of the berries. Freeze.
About an hour before serving (or even closer if it will be placed outside), mix the wine, liquors, remaining fruit together. Peel the cardboard from the Kool-Aid fruit/mold and add it to the container. Then add sugar and Sprite. You'll need less sugar because the KoolAid/Crystal Light is sweet.
White Sangria
*Cheap white wine in a jug - NOT chardonnay. Sav Blanc or just table wine.
*Light rum (or you could use tequila)
*Brandy
