Re: CPW: Exercising

  • I try to walk the dogs several times a week and lift my dumbbells. My goal is to be able to do more pushups than DH...I've been practicing and he hasn't been, so I'm getting close!

  • I have no time - literally - to exercise after work [and no babysitter, either]. Campus has a wellness center, and the membership is cheaper than using the campus rec facilities...so I think I'm going to sign up for a membership and start working out during my lunch break.

Can you opt out of the Colvin center and not pay fees?  Or is that as a non-student who can sign up for a membership?

I've used a gym with a 'kids zone' daycare center and one with a Parent's Room that included cardio equipment plus a gated off kid area in front of it (watch your own kid, which includes stopping whatever you're doing if they get bored/whiney/need to potty/etc).  I much prefer the daycare center ones.  It's definitely worth it to get to focus and enjoy my workout.

  • Also, I voted 4-6, but it's really more like 3-4, depending on the week.  This week has been particularly busy, so I've only been once so far.  I'm going tonight and running a half marathon (trail) on Saturday so I'll still hit 3 I guess.

Tell me about trail running! Do you like? Do you like it more than non-trail running? Is it more difficult?

MIL trail runs while DH, FIL, BIL, and I mountain bike. I've been thinking about trying it out (although, I'm just a beginner runner).

It is harder, only in that it requires more coordination.  It's easier on your joints theoretically (unless of course you lack that coordination and injure yourself!).  A trail run typically takes much longer than a road run of the same distance, but I'm not usually out of breath because I can't run them as fast.
