Nails survey

How do you keep your nails or what do you do to them?  Solar? Shellac? Mainicured w/polish, naked?

I can never decide what I want to do. I must be the most indecisive person in the world.

Re: Nails survey

  • I'm not much help because mine are natural and I don't ever polish them- that just makes them feel weird.
  • I'm pretty lazy and keep mine natural except for fun things like weddings and vacations.
  • I get mine painted a color because the white tends to chip off very quickly with me. So the French manicure is a waste of money for me.  I probably get one a month though, usually when I get my pedicure.
  • Naked.

Acrylic is awful for your nails, paint chips on me way too quickly, and frankly I'm too cheap to do the solar manicures that everyone talks about.

I get pedicures monthly. That's about it. I'll get a manicure for a very special occasion. Like, my wedding. Or being in someone's wedding. That's it.

    THIS.

And I have to keep them short and natural for school.

  • I usually keep them naked. Everything else is too much work. I will paint them sometimes, and then they chip the next day when I am at work, so then I am just mad because I have to go the whole day with a chipped nail!

I did the shellac for vacation, it was $35, looked good for two weeks. It goes on like polish, and doesn't hurt your nails at all.

I get a mani & pedi every 3-4 weeks.  I used to do solar nails, but I wasn't going often enough, and got tired of the maintenance.  When I get a manicure, it is just to clean up the cuticles, etc.  I typically don't even have them polish because it chips so fast.

    Exactly.

One of my pet peeves is chipped nails and toenails. I think it looks trashy. No offense, if you keep yours like that. I just can't stand mine being chipped anywhere. This is why I can't paint my nails. Even the first tiny chip I get I want to completely start over and re-do them. And that's just too much work and crap to worry about.

During the winter I do my own toes, and it usually lasts about 2-3 weeks without chipping! But during the summer I get pedicures about once a month, because I can go about 4 weeks with no chips and they still look decent.

Summer thinks I'm trashy!!!!!!  Crying  Mean girl alert.  In my defense, I don't keep them that way, it just happens and I forget to do something about it.  Mean.  Girl.

  • I can't stand a tiny chip either. I'll obsess over it all day. I get a pedicure about once every other month, unless I'm going somewhere. In between I do my own, and not to toot my own horn (toot toot) but I do a pretty good job on my toes!  I'm going to get a pedi after work since we are going to Galveston, but I can't let them scrub my feet, tickles so much that I can't even sit still!

I remember the first time I went to float the river, I had never been, DH and I had only been dating a couple months, well I thought I needed to look cute! So I got a pedi, hot pink and cute little white flower. Yea... I'm on the river a little while, maybe an hour or two (and it was an 6 or 8 hour float that year) and I hit rocks, and BAM, there goes my cute pedi... Had to go the whole weekend with a chipped big toe and half flower

Naked.  I like manicures, but I prefer french manicures.  They are a bit spendy and chip super fast.  So, I just go without, usually.  I agree, I don't like fake nails on me at all.  They ruin my real nails.

I would like to do the shellac, but $35 seems like a lot for me.  I do get a pedicure monthly, though.  Mostly in the summer months.  In the winter I do it myself.

Yea...its a little pricey, that is why I just did it for vacation. I wish the fake nails didn't jack your nails up so bad. I like the way they look (I got hot pink tips one year, loved it!)

    Yep. Better watch out.

  • I have solar nails.  I get them done every 3-4 weeks.  When I rip them off my nails are pretty damaged, but when that grows out my nails are back to normal and healthy.  For some reason, when I don't have fake nails on, my cuticles just peel all the time and crack and bleed.  It's the strangest thing.  And I keep lotion on all the time.

I do, too.  If they didn't ruin my nails I would wear them all the time.

  • I do solar and have for years.  I can't wear polish since I type every day, it pulls away from the edges.  They are expensive and I hate wasting an hour every other Saturday getting them done.  But I will bite my nails down to the quick if I don't have them.
  • I would really like to have the Shellac done to my nails.  Here is a dumb question though...does every nail place do that?  If not, do you just call around and ask if they give "Shellac" manicures?

I have been trying to look at nail salon menus while I get pedicures and I never see the word Shellac on them.  Am I not looking for the right thing?

  • I think the place I went to called it Gel. I just asked them if they did the french tips they looked and felt like fake nails but went on like a polish and didn't mess up your real nails and they knew what I was talking about.

  • While we're on this topic, did I miss the memo that super dark, almost black, nail polish is in?
  • Guess I did too. I know its okay for winter, didn't know it would be for summer

  • I wish I could afford to get a regular mani, I do it as a treat every now and then, however I keep my nails short and polished most of the time. I love dark colors but for winter, I think it looks to harsh for summer months, and looks really gross with a tan but that's my opinion! My favorit colors for every day are neutrals like OPI Bubble Bath. Right now I am wearing Chanel's Pearl Drop but I need to remove it tonight, they are starting to chip and look unkept.

That's too pale for me.  I do love OPI though.  They make the best polish, IMO.

It is like your inside of my head, Stephie!

I bite my nails, badly, if I don't have solar nails.  However... most of the time I just have ugly, ragged nails because lately I have not had the time and haven't wanted to spend the $$.

On another note, I would like to get Shellac on my toes.  Do they do that?

    I want this answer too.

  • I keep mine simple and paint them myself in a natural color. I only get a professional mani/pedi a few times/year for special occasions.
  • I keep my nails natural and I also have to keep them short for school.

I hardly ever get pedicures, I usually just paint them myself.
