How often to you have your air ducts cleaned? Our house is 15 years old. We just moved in & I have no idea if or when they were last cleaned. We hope to get it done soon but I was just curious. Is there a good way to tell that it's needed?
Re: Another HVAC Question
Honestly- I think it's a rip off. I just had them come do it this week because we've been in our house for 1 year and have been noticing black stuff coming out when the air is on. I really just wanted them to come and confirm it wasn't mold. The guys didn't speak english, really didn't seem to know anything, couldn't tell me what the black stuff was, then just hooked up a big vaccuum to one of the vents for about 20 minutes.
Sure, it could just be the company I used, but after my experience I googled about air duct cleaning and found an article by the EPA (http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/airduct.html ) where they basically say that they have no evidence proving that you should or need to get your air ducts cleaned.
This is what I've been told. We had mold remediation done in our basement when we bought our house, and the company that did it told us that they could clean out the ducts, but that it really doesn't need to be done. So instead I just took a shop-vac around to each of our vents to suck out the obvious dust and dirt/debris.
