Re: UO's

  • I haven't really got any. Shocking, I know.

  • Regarding the whole Anthony Wiener scandal:

I heard on the news last night that his wife was planning on staying with him? I guess it's just my mentality or from seeing it personally, but if a person cheats one time it's 99% more likely they will do it again. I do feel bad for her especially since it has come out that she is pregnant, but why...why would you stay with this man?

  • Mine is in regard to the Wiener scandal, too. Seriously---the jokes write themselves, don't they? :)

Mine is that I just don't care. I don't care what my legislator (regardless of party affiliation) does with his or her peen or vag. I don't care what comes out of it or doesn't (like the whole "Jeri Askins isn't a mother" thing) or which other adults they put it in, on, or around. I care about whether they can do their job or not, and what they do when they go home at night, that's their deal.

I'm also getting really tired of the predictability of how these "Senator caught having gay sex in an airport bathroom/cheating on his wife/french kissing a bulldog while wearing leather chaps" things come out.

Step 1: Scandal breaks after some hemming and hawing

Step 2: Tearful, apologetic press conference

Step 3: Other officials bemoan about how their opponent is SOOO immoral

Step 4: Everyone forgets it ever happened for the most part after a week or two

Step 5: One of the officials (probably a previous bemoaner) is caught with his or her pants down

    Rinse and Repeat

  • I didn't really have one, but the Weiner (hehe) talk reminded me. This is more of an annoyance than a UO. Whatever.

Someone I follow on Twitter said something to the effect of "For Weiner's wife, having to take his name was bad enough, now this?"

It irritated me beyond belief. She didn't change her name. Not everyone does. The assumption that everyone does and/or should pisses me off.

I'm also annoyed at people acting like she's some timid victim in all this. The woman has a very impressive political career of her own. She's not some kind of shrinking violet.

ETA: I will admit my annoyance with that tweet also stems from the fact that this is a respected member of the local media and has political beliefs that line up with mine most of the time.

  • I don't care about the peen scandal either.  Is he doing a good job?  What are his approval ratings?  Does it really matter that he was sending pictures of his peen to another woman?  Sounds like an issue between he and his wife (him and his wife, someone help) and not the united world and him (he?).  All of these politicans have shady sh!t going on, for crying outloud, continuing to harp on them is wasting time when our country has major issues.  Lets work on our tax system, health care system, reform welfare, get a decent budget, and let Weiner and his wife worry about who he is sending sexy pictures too. Good Lord.

BUT - it does bother me he lied about it.  Should he have lied?  No.  Should it have ever been in the news to begin with?  No.

  • I've been over the Anthony Weiner scandal since its inception. I have never cared, nor will I ever, have a concern for the personal lives of politicians. We have hired them to do a legislative service, not trump them on their lack of supposed values.

He's a great congressman and I have longed followed his career, what his wife decides to do is not for media speculation.

ETA: I agree with pp. Huma (Weiner's wife) has a VERY impressive political career. She is successful in her own right, let us not forget that she is very capable of handling these matters (no matter how hurtful it may be).
