Hello ![]()
I post here occasionally because I've dealt with inability to have sex for 2 years and then painful sex for 1 year. Thanks to a wonderful nurse practitioner, I've been using dilators for almost 2 years now. I can have a GYN exam (with the help of xanax) and I was finally able to have pain-free, great sex with my current BF of 7 months. However, lately, if I miss a day or two using the dilator, I feel this sort of ring of pain and tightness. It's nothing like it used to be, but it's still painful.
For those of you that use dilators or other therapies for vaginal pain, is this going to be a lifelong thing for me, using the dilator every day? I thought that after a while it would "fix" the issue. I guess I can deal with that, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any long term experience with this. Thanks so much!
Re: Question for those with Vaginismus or others who use dilators
I'm in the same boat. I have actually been seeing a physical therapist for a good while now for this issue and it has been an enormous help! Not quite 100%, but it is a TON better. If you have the insurance and haven't tried this yet, I recommend it. The PT will help you stretch the pelvic floor muscles to help intercourse become less painful. They will also recommend to keep using the dilator.
According to my PT, if you have gotten your pelvic floor muscles stretched enough, they shouldn't tighten up again.
Hope this helps!
