  • Ava chipped her tooth at one of the gym parties she was participating in :(  she was around 2.5 yrs at the time

my dentist is my relative, and it was a sunday afternoon, so i called his cell freaking out. he wanted to see her the next morning - mostly to check that the entire tooth wasn't loose or other damage the impact may have caused, but basically, they leave the tooth alone or possibly file it if it's really sharp/jagged because it'll eventually fall out.

Ava let him wiggle and count her teeth and she didn't need filing. i still see it and get sad!

She complained that it was too hard to eat the pizza at the party, but i'm prety sure she ate dinner that night. i might have made something soft, though - can't remember.

  • thanks, I was freaking out too, I dont know how it happened. I called the babysitter and she said that she didnt notice anything and he didnt fall or bump into anything, so I guess it could be worse, its just a little chiped on the edge of his tooth, I was thinking that maybe it could be filed, thanks for calming me down :)
  • If it's a tiny chip I wouldn't be overly worried... But you could bring him into a pediatric dentist to take a look. Chances are if it chipped there was some sort of trauma. Based on the fact that no one knows when it happened ... it probably wasn't too traumatic. :-) But in cases of trauma... Your always looking for swelling/bump on the gum above the tooth, color change of the tooth, or pain. If something like that happens... It would need either a baby root canal or an extraction. But... Like I said ... This seems like it wasn't too traumatic..but it's always good to just keep a close eye on it. In terms of fixing it... I'll be honest... It would bother me esthetically if K chipped her tooth at two years... But I prob wouldn't bring her into the office and fix it. 2 years old is just a hard age to work on... If you want to fix it..i would suggest bringing him to a pediatric dentist...they are more equipped for little ones and they may be able to try bonding it..possibly under nitrous sedation (laughing gas). I'm typing this out on my phone ... Sorry for any formatting issues! Any other questions? If I think of anything I'll post again!

  • Jack has chipped his front tooth and the one next to it on the left side when looking at him.  I noticed it after it happened and that was about 2 months ago.  No swelling so I let it go.

Last week he fell into the coffee table at a friend's house and ripped the skin piece between his upper gum and lip, omg was there blood. Though he calmed right down after screaming for a minute or two.  Then went back to playing.  Apparently a ton of kids rip that, I did when I was a baby, friend's son, about 5 other people I talked to so again I am not worried and he is fine.

  • Connor has a chip in a front tooth too.

I was really upset when I noticed it- but I  noticed it one day when putting him into the carseat so I have no idea when or how it happened! Its not too noticeable to strangers - you wouldn't really pick up on it if you didn't know what his tooth looked like before, so I just let it go because its not causing him discomfort either.
